Hello, I am currently a community college student and I will be able to transfer to a CSU for Fall 2014. My major is English Literature and I want to be a high school English teacher, also I would like to teach English abroad.
Which CSU has the best English department and teaching program? I was originally looking into CSU Monterey but it turns out they don't even have an English department!

From Sonoma State’s Website:
The Department of English is one of the university’s largest. Students who wish to major in English may choose one of three plans, each of which provides a coherent program with a particular emphasis. After a core of required courses, students will follow programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts in English degree with a concentration in English and American Literature, Creative Writing, or English Education (that is, preparation for students entering post-baccalaureate English Single Subject teacher credentialing programs). The English Department offers one of Sonoma State University’s most robust graduate programs; the M. A. in English offers students the choice of an emphasis in literary criticism, creative writing, or rhetoric and English education.

Sonoma State has a really strong education department and it might be a good option to get your degree and credential. I don’t know if you are looking to study abroad or just teaching abroad, but SSU also had a nice study abroad program which might be an option.

As Fluteloop says, Sonoma is really strong in both. For incoming freshmen, they have an accelerated credential program that allows you to teach after just 4 years (BA included).

It is also a really pretty campus with a private feel.

I don’t know what they do for transfers but, they would be high on my list.

FYI, i know Fullerton has a really good credential program.
