Best CSU for Linguistics

As I wasn't able to take the SAT IIs, not to mention the fact that my GPA wasn't so fantastic in the first place (3.2 weighed!), I'm stuck in the Cal States for awhile. I got a 1700 on my SAT reasoning and took AP/Honor classes from sophomore through senior year.

I'm looking to major in Linguistics, and before sending in my applications tonight, I wanted to know which Cal State(s-- maybe) had the best Linguistics program in which I could later transfer to a UC.

I was asking around elsewhere but no one seemed to know a thing. Hopefully I can get some feedback here.

dnduswo: I had actually thought about CC but my parents were disappointed enough about my ineligibility into a UC so I thought a Cal State would be less... erm.. "embarrassing" for them.

csu to uc is really really hard...

Well, the majority of the CSUs do not have linguistics programs. Those that do probably don't place much focus on it, so the quality of the programs is probably the same. If I had to say which, I'd probably put my money on SJSU or SDSU. Then Fresno, Chico, Fullerton, and Northridge (in no specific order).

If you really want to go to a UC, I would highly recommend CC and then transfer. The UCs are very strong in linguistics -- four of the UCs have top-10 ling departments (Cal, UCLA, UCSD, and UCSC), and some of the other UCs (UCSB, UCD, UCI) have very good ling programs, too.

I'd apply to UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. With a strong essay, you have a chance.

APPLY TO ALL ANYWAYS! You never know...
