In your opinion which is the best CSU?

Personally I really like San Jose State. Has anyone been there, or can anyone tell me anything about how selective this school is?

Thanks

I think San Diego State is the most selective, simply because of the huge number of people that apply (i think it has about the same amount of applicants as UCLA.) It's also my favorite CSU because of the great location and good programs it has in theater, dance, communications, but it's mostly known for its business programs.

the two cal poly schools are the best in the CSU system

oh oops yeah---Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo are probably the most selective/reputable, but I think they're mostly known for their science/math programs. So if that's what your interests are, then those 2 are your best bet.

ok cool thanks.

California Polytechnic - SLO

San Jose State University

CSU-Long Beach (?)

so San Jose state has a good reputation?

It has a good reputation, but I wouldn't say it's better than the reputation of any one of the UCs (with the exception of Riverside, perhaps). If you're looking to go into a CSU with a great reputation, go to CalPolySLO - it's hands down, the best known CSU and the best out of them all.

1 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
2 San Diego State

What about Sonoma state?

CSUS isn't too well known. While San Diego State may be popular, it isn't the best academically.

CSU-Chico and CSU-Long Beach are the best CSUs after CalPolySLO.

According to US News top public universities (Master's, West region):
1. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
3. CSU Chico, CSU Long Beach
5. Cal Poly Pomona
6. Sonoma State
8. Humboldt State
9. CSU Fullerton
10. San Jose State
12. CSU Stanislaus
14. CSU Fresno
17. CSU Bakersfield, CSU Sacramento

None of the CSU's have much of a reputation though, except for Cal Poly SLO.

someone told me that Long Beach was nice , but had a lot of crime.

It really depends on what you want to major in........ there isn't really one CSU that necessarily tops them all; for instance, I would go to either SLO or SDSU for business, or SLO, Pomona or SJSU for engineering.

I've always heard cal poly pomona is the best

celebrian - you must not be from California. Don't confuse Cal Poly Pomona with Pomona College, which is an elite LAC. When people speak of CalPoly, they usually mean San Luis Obisbo, which has an outstanding rep in engineering.
Cal Poly Pomona doesnt have nearly the reputation of SLO. Neither are similar to Pomona College - apples and oranges.

I mean the cal state not the private LAC. It's just the one I hear about being the best.

<<<<<<<obviously, I'm not from cali

People don't really know it, but Chico State is a good school. They think it isn't because it doesn't have the greatest reputation (party school). It has a great credential program (half of my teachers where I used to live [not chico] went to school there, and almost all of my teachers now). It has a program that only 4 universities in the United States do, which has to do with the music industry (Chico is the only one west of Tennessee). Also, it has a pretty good business school. I guess I'm biased because I love the town and think everyone should experience it. I'm not even going to school here and I'm sticking up for it! I just think people worry more about the "name" sometimes and don't take a good enough look at the programs other schools have to offer.

celebrian25: Seeing as your a good college expert on CC, you should get this straight: Cal Poly Pomona isn't a great school. CalPoly-SLO is the better of the CalPolys. CalPoly Pomona is literally a "no-name school" to most Californians.

Do Extracurriculars play into your chances of getting into a CSU?
