Is SLO a “commuter school?” S is out of state and wants full resident college experience, not a commuter school. He visited SLO and has researched it and has been favorably impressed, Didn’t know about this potential drawback, though.

It’s a great school. If he got in as an OOS then props to him! I wouldn’t consider SLO a commuter school at all.

Hello, writing for my graduating senior. She attended a college prep school in SoCal. Unfortunately less than stellar grades and had delusions of grandeur about where she would be accepted. Was accepted to Cal Lutheran, problem is we cannot afford…maxed out financial aid. She got a rejection letter from Loyola Marymount in LA…very upset. My only hope is for to hurry and apply to a CSU (she very much wants to live on campus and experience college life). She did apply to Cal State San Fran. (I hear everyone gets in there)…she want to study art/design, hopefully listen to me and minor in business/marketing??I am from east coast and just getting familiar…I hear Cal Poly SLO is best, know that that is polytechnic and higher level. We live in San Fernando Valley and I think that she would shoot herself before going to CSUN…I feel bad that she cannot go to Cal Lutheran, but those who have 3.5 and above get the real good scholarships…please help!!

Just posting so I can find this later.

travelin, do you know which campuses are still accepting applications? That would be the best place to start.Also, only fire or so are considered residential. There is a website “portal” that should help narrow things down.

Hey ya’ll,

I came across this thread while searching for some info on CSUs.

Long story short, I applied to some Master’s Programs in Biology (emphasis on ecology/evolution). Since I was specifically looking for Master’s programs and am from California, CSUs were an obvious choice. However, I know almost nothing about most of these programs, I was only able to browse through whatever information was available on the web (not much) regarding professors and requirements.

Does anyone know which CSUs have particularly good non-human biology graduate programs (DRJ? :D)?

Is CSULA’s bio program any good? (I’ve already visited the campus and know what I would be getting into aesthetics-wise, lol)

Any information would help! Thanks!

Here are some facts on the quality of students the CSU campuses accept. Not a complete reflection on the quality of the schools, but just a component. I would say SLO by far the better campus and Cal Poly Pomona is the best of the rest. For a while the two Poly’s have lead the CSU pack:

I’m currently a first year transfer student. I’m most likely going to go to Cal State Northridge or Cal Poly Pomona for the Music Industry Studies major. Which do you guys think has a better Music Industry program?

iIreally think that you should seriously consider what you are going to major in.

For instance: Cal State Chico has one of the best Construction Management programs and also has some amazing engineering classes and a great music scene. Yet CSC gets a rap for being a party school. The campus is great and the town has a lot to do. Shopping, movies, arts, incredible park etc…I am only picking this school as an illustration to show you that looks can be deceiving and you really should check into the specifics of what you want to major in when deciding on where you might want to attend. Each CS school has a different flair and something to offer.

My point is that the California system is very large(huge) and complex, that you should look at data regarding majors

Yeah I have considered what I want to major in. And that is Music Industry.

Chico State has a wonderful program in Music Industry. Check it out.

From their website:“The BA in Music Industry & Technology offers two options. The Option in Music Industry fits those who wish to pursue a career in music business while the Option in Recording Arts is for those who would like to work with both the technical and artistic aspects of music.”

They have state of the art facility’s and their recording set up is one of the finest in all of California with some of the best synthesizers, equipment and it’s set up for MIDI recording. You should check it out. I think they also have a good program at San Fran State too.

Well between I’m wondering which is better between Cal State Northridge & Cal Poly Pomona. I’m not really looking to go far away to Chico. And I checked on their website and San Fran State doesn’t have a Music Industry program.

Can’t help you on Cal State Northridge or Cal Poly Pomona.
Sorry about recommending San Fran as I thought they did have a Music Industry Program.

@alenghavami

I’d choose Cal Poly Pomona over Cal State Northridge… oh wait… I already did!

Hey - can anyone give some advice on choosing between Cal Poly Pomona and Fresno State for animal science? I know CPP has a better overall rep but, how do their Ag programs compare? Thanks for your help!

go with pomona. far better university.

FRESNO man… Why would you tell someone not to go to Fresno for AG programs drj? If you want to blindly salivate over Pomona thats fine, but don’t give others horrible advice to boost your favorite school. Again, gotaplay2, Fresno State.

duh…how the hell do you even have a clue what my favorite school is? or even if it’s an american university if not in california?

if somebody asked for input about football programs within the CSU fresno very well might win. in agriculture it’s the two polytechnics. show some evidence of fresno’s academic prowess. i’m still looking.

drj & episcopal: Thanks for your feedback. Just wondering where I could read more about the two programs. She’s been accepted at both schools. Where did you both get your info? Thanks again for your help.

@gotaplay2

As far as academics Cal Poly Pomona is more reputable. Fresno State has way better athletics like drj suggests.
