Hey guys,
I’m having a last second change of heart and deciding to apply for CUNY if I can manage it, and apparently I can apply to 4 campuses at once. I’m studying business-finance with lots of work experience and a 3.8 GPA which seems to be way above the threshold for their transfer applicants. The priority deadline was 2/1 but they accept applicants until 3/1. I wanted to add a back-up school in the NYC area because my Rutgers app might be disqualified. I applied to NYU-Stern and Fordham-Gabelli but those are both a little harder to get into. After reading threads on CC and WSO it seems like Baruch would be the best one, but what about besides baruch?
Queens College is another good choice.
I was thinking
Cuny Baruch
Queens
Hunter
Brooklyn?
Not sure what order to put them in, or if order really matters.
Baruch is definitely the best - many employers view Baruch business grads on the same level as Stern grads.
Baruch would be the top CUNY for business (although it is not at the same level as Stern or Fordham).
Of course. I think I have a pretty good chance of getting into Fordham, but Stern is near-impossible.
I submitted my application for Brooklyn/Queens/Baruch. I don’t think I’d want to go unless I got into Baruch anyways.
@philbegas If you do get into Fordham and are considering it, one thing to keep in the back of your mind is that the school has a very large liberal arts core curriculum and you would have to complete that core along with the required business classes for your major to graduate. If Fordham is in the group of schools you are considering then if possible you should meet with someone there (transfer advisor, dean) see what classes you will get credit for and determine how long it would take you to graduate. My S went to Fordham - Gabelli (had a great experience there) but a friend how transferred in ended up having to take one additional semester to graduate.
Of course. Also when they transfer credit they transfer everything as a 3 unit course. They did a mini evaluation for me and it would definitely be 2.5 yrs there
Unless I can take cc classes the summer between the years therr
What are your goals? NYU would be the best out of the schools listed by far for business if you don’t want to close any doors.
It will be extremely difficult to land a FO role out of Cuny schools (including Baruch) and Fordham,
I believe that once you are enrolled at Fordham that they will no longer accept CC credits (or that was the way it was when my S was there). But you could take summer classes at Fordham or another 4 year college (just get any non Fordham class preapproved)
I’m not necessarily looking for IB of any kind. I just like finace more than other business concentrations. IB or perhaps working for the government sounds cool, depending on my opportunities within, and after college.
I suppose I could take classes at Fordham over the summer. An important factor in my decisions is going to be how much time I have to spend at certain schools, and how much that time is going to cost me. CUNY Baruch is quite cheap, and I hear they give OK merit aid to transfers so I figured I might as well apply.
Definitely worth applying to Baruch…you want to give yourself as many options as possible.
My son went to Baruch a year and transferred out. Any questions you can PM.
He did not love city life, lack of dorms, commuter school lack of social life.
Like some of his profs, others not. Academically it seemed OK.
If I get in I might take you up on that
I don’t mind commuter. I moved out of my parents house at 18 so I already transitioned to adult. Not too interested in living in dorms after living in awesome apartments for the last 4+ years hahaha.
