Hello,
I was just accepted to CPP for 2016, Go Broncos! I was wondering what was the best residence hall since I am obligated to stay in the dorms my freshman year. Specifically co-ed dorms, and please include reasons why!

Also
I heard that freshman can apply for residential suites, is this true? and I can’t really figure out how to apply for them. If this is the case, please give me which residential suites I should apply for and why.
Thanks!

You probably want to stay away from Palmitas and Cedritos, they are much smaller and have a very small lobby, compared to huge game rooms that are in the older residence halls.
Look here: dsa.csupomona.edu/uhs/residencehallfloorplans.asp

It says “The only differences are the room shapes and the slightly smaller common area.”
This couldn’t be further from the truth, the common areas in Cedritos and Palmitas are at least 10 times smaller.

The first two on the left are Cedritos and Palmitas.
I’m in Palmitas and there are only two small advantages versus the other buildings. It’s the closest to all the classrooms, and the closest to the gym which is the small building right next to it.
Encenitas is probably the best choice since it has a very large common area and is right next to the commons.

@bl4ke360 thank you so much! I also heard that encinitas was a better one. I also heard this other dorm it started with an “m” i believe was a really good residence hall too. I’m about to start the housing application process myself, and was wondering if you can input the residence you preference or do they just assign you one based on first come first serve?

The one that starts with an “m” is Montecito and would be the second best one to be in. You can pick your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice when you fill out the application.

Im doing the preferences right now and all i can find for encenitas is Academic Leadership/Success and First Year Leadership under Building/Theme Preferences. does whatever’s selected really matter? I have these 3 right now. I have them all for co-ed since i dont really want a theme.

My son’s preferences were 1) Alamitos 2) Aliso 3) Cedritos because those seemed the only one which were double rooms with no themes.
I was wondering what life in the dorm was like. Do students stay during the weekend or go home?

You go to CPP Housing website and make sure you fill out the form to get on their database. Then you can log in using your Bronco id and password. They have an online form to fill out. The Housing site has info on the dorms as well.

My son put Encinitas, Montecitos, and Alamitos. Alamitos is close to the resident parking. The pool is between Montecitos, Alamitos, and Aliso. The commons are next to Encinitas. When we walked into Encinitas there was a clean scent, easter egg coloring outside, and cupcakes baking. They obviously have a great RA. It was pretty empty on campus that Saturday, perhaps due to Easter the next day. Very few students were around, but I’ve seen it just as bare at UC Irvine and there was no holiday.

I’m also an incoming freshman at CPP, What’s the difference from picking a themed community versus picking just a hall. I wanted to do a “college themed community” for study habits but at the same time I wouldn’t mind being with other majors, I mean would I still be in the halls if I picked a college themed community or is there a separate dorm for those? I’m really confused with this housing, there aren’t a lot of videos out there on how they look. I’m a very outgoing person so what to I choose here (Also which one has the best bathrooms)?
Ok so if Encinitas Hall is the better dorm and engineering students are in Palmitas, what should I do? I mean how bad is Palmitas? Secondly do you think I would still have classes with my roommate anyway if I don’t pick the themed communities.
@animeker I’m in the same predicament as you. I’m thinking I’d want to hang around other engineering students but Palmitas sounds pretty lame in comparison to the Phase I halls.
