Best dorm for me?

Greetings.
I am almost positive I will be attending the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities next Fall. I'm not extremely familiar with the dorms, I am from Wisconsin. What's the best dorm fit for me? I have some criteria that could be taken into consideration:

-I was admitted into Carlson, so anything close to it would be nice.
-I like to party, but for a dorm, I would prefer a little quieter, but still social.
-Are there any that don't have like 10/15 people per bathroom? haha.

Also, any tips on finding a roommate for an OOS student, or should I just do random? Can you edit your housing agreement, (maybe if I find someone to room with) after the May 1st deadline?

Can't think of any other criteria at the moment, but I can answer any question you have.

Thanks for the help!

S1 decided to go to UMN 2 years ago in late April and for late accepters there isn’t a whole lot of choice…they’ll put you where there are rooms available. When I called housing after he enrolled they said that they guaranteed freshman housing, but this may mean 3 people in a double-room, or placed in a converted lounge area until rooms became available etc. The only exception was for those in the honors housing as they always kept rooms open at Middlebrook for those students. That’s where my son ended up. Look at past threads on this site as there are quite a few people posting about the “best dorms” and definitely put your choice down because you never know. A friend’s daughter last year was put in the apartment type dorm (Yudof I think) as that was all that was left, but then she moved in spring to Pioneer. Call housing and they can tell you if its different this year. Good luck.

One more thing, Middlebrook only has 2 rooms to a bathroom. Middlebrook is on the west bank though, so quite a walk over the bridge to classes on the east side. (There are shuttles but with all the construction I’m not sure how close they bring you to some of the main buildings.) Middlebrook does have a great cafetaria. It is very quiet though. I am not sure where Carlson is, so I’m no help there.

Yudof and Middlebrook are very close to Carlson, and those dorms aren’t usually the top on people’s lists so you may have a good chance there. My brother stayed in both and he enjoyed it (I’ve been there plenty); mostly theater/nerdy kids live in Middlebrook, not that it’s a bad thing at all; I put Middlebrook as my third or fourth choice IIRC.

There is a Facebook application/page where people post in, mostly looking for roommates, you can try there.

Do you know what the Facebook page is called?

Middlebrook is about 1 or 2 buildings away from Carlson. It supposedly has the best food and the bathrooms are really nice. S2 is in the honors dorm with 1 bath per 2 rooms. He has a good friend that lives on the non honors floor on the river side of Middlebrook and they share a shower/toilet with another room, but each room has its own sink/mirror.

I just think it will be cool to have someone named Bucky Hoosier living in Minnesota!

Hahahahaha. That’s not my actual name, I just had to think of an odd combination for CC :D

Thanks for the help, though.

@Bucky: The application is called “University of Minnesota” on Facebook (M logo on it), I remember after confirming enrollment or signing up for Orientation it gave me a link to it iirc… maybe it was an email.
