Best dorm for Mich Engineering freshman?

We visisted the campus but I dont remember now how far the Engg campus is from the main campus. Do the engg kids feel isolated? What is the best dorm for Engg freshman in terms of social life and food?

Bursley is closest to north campus, followed by baits I and II which are a little isolated and further.

Bursley is pretty social and not as bad as everyone makes it to be, but the bus ride down every day kind of sucks. There is also a lot of frosh engineers in Bursley compared to to the central dorms.

i heard that as a freshman in engineering, only 1 class will be on north campus, so if you want to try for central or hill dorms you should.

it depends on how many AP credits you have. I started my engineering career with all the requirements other than 100 and 101 done. So if I wanted I could have done ALL engineering classes, but it's always good to have cupcake LSA or honors classes as GPA savers.

oh.. pick mojo

MoJo is full for all non-MRC freshman, I'm afraid. I am currently enrolled at U of M (first year), and I wanted to live in MoJo next year, but it was already full by the time my turn came to pick (I ended up in West Quad, which will have limited space available for freshman). Mosher-Jordan is the nicest res hall on campus, especially after the renovations, but it is pretty small, with less than 500 spaces available.

As an engineering freshman who lives on North Campus (Baits II), I'd recommend not living on North Campus. There's just not much within walking distance of the dorms, bus service sucks on the weekends, and most of your freshman year classes are on Central, anyway. If you do get stuck on North, at least the cafeteria is good, though.

Do you get to pick which campus (North or Central campus) you want a dorm in?

You get to pick which dorm you want to live in. The Quads are on Central Campus proper, Couzens, Alice Lloyd, Mosher-Jordan, Stockwell (women only, at least for now. It might go coed in the near future) and Markley are on the Hill, by the hospital and a short walk from the Diag, and Bursley and Baits are on North Campus. You may not get your first choice, especially if you choose West Quad or South Quad, and you may not get any of your choices and get placed in any random dorm.

Thank you everyone, it has been very helpful.

Stockwell will be closed next year, so you won't be living there.

Last year freshmen could only pick whether they wanted Central (including both South/West Quad and the Hill dorms), Bursley, or Baits. Definitely pick Central as your first choice...I was an engineering freshman and I only went to North Campus twice a week first semester and 3 times a week second semester. North Campus is very isolated and weekend bus service is terrible.

I lived in Markley this year and loved it. It is almost all freshman so everyone is looking to make new friends (South and West Quads have more upperclassmen so I think it is harder to meet people there). There were tons of fun activities scheduled (like Harry Potter Week!) and the cafeteria is very convenient with good food (GREAT cookies!) I am living in a suite in Markley next year (I think these are all filled with returning students but I'm not sure) and I couldn't be happier. :)
