Best Dorms at UCSB

Which are the best dorms and why?!

I really like Manzanita. Although its considered “anti-social” because your key only works for your designated house, you really get to meet and merge with a large number of people in a small house.

Plus the rooms are huge! (especially corner rooms)

FT for the smokers

depends on what you want, ft is generally where more dorm parties happen because its harder to enforce (youll find it in everydorm though), the 5 on campus (san nic, anacapa, santa cruz, santa rosa, and san miguel) are convinient because they are on campus and close to to the beach
and manzinita has a quiet reputation because fewer people live in each building than in a dorm, and you can only get into your building, so you may only see 50 people walking around rather than a few hundred, but its also right next to iv, do dont think its anti social, i have a friend who lived there last year and he was plenty social

small things to consider about each dorm:

anacapa: you only have about a 15% chance of an ocean view, so dont count on it
santa cruz: closest to campus point beach
san nic: in between dlg and ortega dining halls (breakfast isnt served in dlg excpet on weekends for brunch)
san mig: boys and girls have rooms on seperate floors, i dont get why
santa rosa: no too much to say, its the same layout as anacapa and santa cruz
manzinita: nicest rooms, carillo dining is good, close to iv, but will probably meet fewer people
ft: crazy crazy fun, tons of people, but its also far from campus (walking to the beach from ft is different from walking to the beach from manzinita)

hope that helps, lots of opinion stuff in there, but i try to not bias it, really its up to you, and youll probably like where ever you end up

by the way, ft is now santa catalina, but people still call it ft, administrators are working really hard to phase the name ft out
