Best dorms for incoming freshman?!

Overall exciting, fun, happy dorm suggestions? help i dont know where to go!
not too quiet and boring please thank u so much!

I would recommend living in Southwest, which is the largest residential area on campus. It is also where Berkshire and Hampshire dining commons, which in my opinion, are the best dining commons on campus. Southwest is also the most urban-like residential area on campus, and it is the only one with z-rooms. If you decide to attend, you’ll learn all about this during your orientation in the summer.

Honestly, it depends on your personality. I was a fan of OHill (there are some pretty awesome people there) but some people would simply die if they had to walk up that hill every day.

Before you go to orientation, thing about things like:
-do you want to live with people who have the same types of majors you do? (science majors tend to congregate in some areas, humanities in others)
-how far do you want to be from your classes?
-are you willing to walk up the hill?
-do you want a dining hall outside your dorm?
-if you’re going to stay in the same living area your whole stay in Amherst, would you want a single down the line? (not all areas have them)

I’m an honors engineering student so I was thinking about Orchard Hill. is there still a social scene even though a lot of honors kids are there? I’m worried there won’t be a ton going on but obviously not looking for as crazy as southwest

I’m a mircobiology/premed major and I’m taking a chance living in SW. My RAP is health sciences with is based @ SW (I’m trying for the low-rise dorms!), but I heard many engineers live in Northeast. Apparently, Sylvan is like siberia, and OHill is supposed to be really nice. It really depends on what you make of it…

what about central? is that a good place for a freshman to live?
i’m a psych major and very artsy/a bit of a hippie. i heard those dorms are good
i also heard ohill is beautiful… i like walking

Does anyone know much about the northeast dorms? I am hoping to get 9 month housing and I know they have it there.
