Best Economics Major and Minor Combination?

I am currently a freshman at Montclair State University and was wondering which of the following major/minor combinations is the most marketable after graduation:

Economics Major/Double Minor in Math and Philosophy
Economics Major/Minor in one of the previously mentioned subjects
Business Economics Major/Minor in Math
Business Economics Major/Minor in Philosophy

The difference between econ and bizecon at my school is the latter includes additional finance and accounting classes (both majors are in the school of business).

My plans after graduating are to find work in market research, consulting, or as a financial analyst and attain an MBA from a top school. I have a 3.8 GPA if that affects the response to this question. If you have any other suggestions as to major/minor combo feel free to say so. Thank you.

Business Economics Major/Minor in Math

business > economics > math > philosophy in terms of employability

Another question…would it be better to do Bizecon/Math Minor or Bizecon with a minor in Computer Science? Thanks

Math, with an emphasis on Analysis or Statistics. Most Grad Econ programs (at least in my area) will not even consider you if you haven’t focused on one (or commonly both).

If the OP had expressed any interest in a PhD program in economics, I would totally agree with you on the math point. But I have a feeling that MBA programs won’t care quite as much about upper-level math.

Econ and Math/Statistics

If you are interested in finance/banking/consulting, by far the best combination is Econ (w/finance+accounting) and comp sci.

Just go look at any job that interests you on careerbuilder or monster. Look at the job descriptions and follow that path.
