Best engineering degree for going overseas?

What would a good engineering major be for finding work overseas? I'm finishing up my last 9 months in the Navy and then will be going to the University of Alabama. My intended major is ME, but now I'm wondering which major would be best for plying my skills outside the United States.

After 6 very unsatisfying years in the Navy, future earnings potential is my number one concern, as I need to "catch up" in life financially.

Chemical Engineering is good for work in oil-producing countries. Australia has a lot of mining work available so anything that is related to mining is good too. Of course, there are other opportunities too.

I believe engineering in general has a lot of opportunities around the world. It’s everywhere and people can’t live without it. Depends if you want to work in an urban or rural/ isolated environment. For mechanical, it should be in both settings. As for petroleum, you wouldn’t necessarily be in an urban setting because oil rigs are a rare site in the middle of a city. I’m taking civil engineering and construction is everywhere.

CS/CIS/MIS are pretty good degrees to get if you’re interested in a finding a job since there’s many jobs in the IT industry.
