I was wondering what engineering discipline is considered best to major in when you are considering patent law?

btw I am not considering law at all. I am an engineering student and I was just wondering which discipline would be best when a patent attorney is on the job.

Also, when I say "best," I mean most in demand.

Mechanical, I believe.

I would imagine the most in demand would be the area which has the most current patents. I think that would likely be EE/CPE/CS.

Electrical Engineering is the most in-demand major for patent law.

One of the job list service to which I subscribe lists about 80 firms with descriptions for patent jobs. The majority of them are EE but there are a large number of bio/chem/pharm jobs also. Third in line would be mechanical, but still active. Because many of these firms are IP boutiques, many list needs for all three backgrounds.
