I’m currently a high school junior at a STEM centered high school also taking a two year bioscience technology program. I am thinking about getting a research based science career- specifically pharmacology. I know that this requires me to attend pharmacy school for my graduate studies. And as a pre-pharm student, I know it does not count as a major so I was looking at an engineering major- biomedical engineering.
I will most likely attend Ohio State (I know it is a while from now to decide) as a pre-pharm and pre-biomed engineering student my freshman year and apply for the BME program the spring before my sophomore year. But, the problem is that BME is the toughest program/major to get accepted into at the university with about 75 students accepted each year. It is so competitive that the university suggests all students to have a backup plan.
I’ve enjoyed focusing on biomedical aspects of science in my biosci tech program and engineering in my STEM school, which is why I desire to major in BME. But, I fear that it will be too competitive and I might not get in. Also, I know BME majors tend to get lower GPAs because of the difficult coursework and GPAs are a heavy factor in your acceptance into pharmacy school.
Looking at the big picture, what are other engineering majors that I could benefit from as a student that plans to apply for pharmacy school- content and GPA wise? Chemical and biomolecular engineering (CBE)?
This is my first post on here so please tell me if you need anything clarified.
