I have been accepted to the engineering schools at Maryland, Penn State, Michigan, and I am hoping to get into University of Virginia. I plan on majoring in electrical engineering, but I really don't know what the advantages of going to one school over another are. Any suggestions based on engineering or life at the school in general would be greatly appreciated.

At that level, it’s generally personal preference. No two people will have the same opinion about the quality of student life - you’ll just have to visit and make the decision for yourself.

Yes, from the schools you listed…all three have differences at least in location and environment. Penn State, Michigan and UVA are all in smaller college towns whereas UMD is very close to Washington DC. Michigan is only an hour from a big city (Detroit) where as Penn State and UVA are far away from major cities.

They are too close to call without actually visiting them.

I like that penn state and michigan are not in huge cities…ann arbor and university park will be convenient and low stress, I look at this as an ideal environment for studying engineering. If I came out of class in the middle of downtown Chicago I’d probably have a breakdown but that’s just me : )

Personally I’d go with UVA, but thats just me. Its a great school with great traditions, in my opinion has the nicest campus on that list, and definitely stands out on that list to me.
