IMO, Iz’s Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World is absolutely outstanding.
Parsonsfield singing Huey Lewis’ “Power of Love”. The way they do it, it’s like a whole different song.
Siouxsie & the Banshees - Dear Prudence
It seems that Zeppelin’s covers are quite popular in this thread, and that’s fine with me!
Here’s another: D’yer Mak’er - Sheryl Crow
Two fab versions: one from a tribute album to Led Zeppelin and one from MTV’s “Unplugged”.
Both are simply superb. (And it ain’t pronounced “Dire Maker”!)
Was just going to post The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter. I especially love it this time of year.
Wow, the things you learn on CC. After all these years, I now know where one of my favorite, long-gone posters, @D’yerMaker, got his screen handle.
Don’t get the relation of the song title to the lyrics, though. Can someone explain?
Heart - Stairway to Heaven
It’s an old joke from England: Man says “My wife went to the Caribbean.” Friend responds:
“Jamaica?” Man responds: “No, she went on her own accord”.
Jamaica?=Did you make her?= D’yer Mak’er?
It’s a pun on Jamaica because of the somewhat reggae feel of the song. All my friends used to pronounce it “Dire Maker”! They kinda’ missed the Zep’s sense of humor.
Dolly Parton - Stairway to Heaven
Best band to cover…Led Zep
Immigrant Song performed by Trent Reznor
Best at covering others…Chris Cornell
Thank you, Imagine, The Keeper and Nothing compares 2U
Goodness me…Led Zeppelin seems to be running away with the most number of favorite covers!
Not surprised, but still surprised. Nonetheless, totally worthy!
My favorite “Hallelujah” is Pentatonix by far, followed by Bon Jovi (seriously!).
I was coming on to say Heart’s version of Stairway to Heaven. Watch the extended video because I love seeing the band’s reaction to the song.
Absolutely. They were very moved at Kennedy Center Honors. I was listening to Howard Stern and he mentioned how good Heart was so I listened to it a few weeks ago. That was another reason I thought of Adele at the Grammy’s with Fastlove( in my original post) as the audience was so moved by her performance.
Harry Nilsson - Without You
Ok, I’m having loads of fun with this thread!
Two more:
These Foolish Things - Bryan Ferry (and the brilliant album of the same name, which consists entirely of great covers)
Got My Mind Set on You - George Harrison
I love Chris Cornell’s voice; Soundgarden and Audioslave were the soundtracks of my youth. His death was a huge loss to the music community, imo.
Came here to add this. I prefer this version to the original.
Love Vigilantes-- The Oyster Band
Love Will Tear us Apart – June Tabor and The Oyster Band
Art Garfunkel - I Only Have Eyes For You (it’s “our song”)
