best food in the nation?

can you elaborate?

I think CalX is referring to the greater variety of off-campus food at UCB... The city of Berkeley has more ethnic, one-of-a-kind specialty restauarants (especially Asian restaurants) than Westwood, which has more franchised trendy restaurants that appeal to young urban professionals with disposable incomes instead of just to college students.

dude a new manager converted one of the good sushi places in the city of berkeley to all-you-can-eat for lunch, and it's for a relatively cheap price too! i wish ucla had that!! but of course if i lived in berkeley, i might not walk all that distance to get to some of the restaurants though.

you mean little india right?
jk there's other asian restaurants but wow i've only seen one other place in cali (cerritos) that has that many indian restaurants/businesses

i dont recall any asian (by asian i mean chinese/thai/viet) restuarants when i visited Cal, but then that was like 2 years ago and i wasnt really looking. i DO remember seeing like 5 indian resturants, a ben & jerry's and a mc donald's (but we have diddy riese and in n out :p).

there's an in-n-out?! score! lol i was worried there for a little bit...so how close is it?

it's in westwood. walking distance (roughly 10 minutes south of dykstra).

all the USC kids go there to eat cuz they dont have one near them. not kidding.

The In-n-Out in Westwood is so close to UCLA, you can almost see the trademark crossed-palms from the residential hill if you live on the top floor of the residence halls.

If you couldn't find a vietnamese/thai/chinese/japanese/korean place to eat in Berkeley, you really aren't looking hard enough (or have your eyes closed)!

Distance is a factor for some of the food, particularly some of the awesome places on the North side of campus (such as the Cheeseboard), but it's so worth it. Oh, yes. The distance between many students and many restaraunts didn't seem to me to be significantly different than UCLA's dorms to many places in Westwood. And both have their hills (although sometimes fairly gradual).

In-n-out can't hold a candle to Barney's (and I've heard the same thing about Bongo burger- haven't been yet). The nearest In-n-out is near the Oakland airport (you can get there via car or Bart).

like i said, it was over 2 years ago and i wasnt really paying attention. :p

Downtown Berkeley has tons of thai and indian and a few chinese, among other types (also cambodian, laotian, persian, japanese). further away but a quick drive, great korean in Oakland, super chinese in SF and just about any Asian food as good or better than anywhere in the USA. Great French restaurants too.

Oscar's is good for a cheaper fast-food type burger experience, and Triple Rock makes a great burger and fries too. In&Out is about a 12-15 minute drive from campus for you SoCal addicts...

The turkish coffee milkshapke at Barney's is awesome, you get the little grounds blended in.

the dorm food is so good. Im going to die =)

If you go to the In-n-Out in Westwood and ask for your hamburger(s) "Bruin Style", they'll make them with Kobe beef patties instead of regular ground beef patties at no extra charge.

ucla does not have good food

ucla does not have good food
Concise yet true.

The food is great and works just fine IMO. Enough variety of options and times opening, plenty of compliments from folks at other schools about how much better it is. Could it be healthier? Yes. On-campus options could be expanded though…

I think the food at Ucla is very good, especially after Cafe 1919. The dishes they serve are quite unique and sophisticated, definitely restaurant quality. We have a side salad of cheeseballs and grape tomatoes!

Anyone who says UCLA doesn’t have good food should get punched in the mouth. Some of you kids are so spoiled. Go try an average college’s food and you’ll understand.

^Well jtanton is a UCLA ■■■■■. One of his recent outbursts against me was even deleted by a moderator (and I was not even the one to report him -.-).

Take a cursory glance at his posting history and you’ll get the idea.

Bruin Style… ? interesting, i didn’t know that… is this true?

definitely not…
