<p>Alright, fairly simple, im a san diego raised surf guy, I know nothing about southern ness, however, for some reason I love Vandy, I applied ed and time will tell how that turns out, but I think I would like to join a frat if I get in, now what I want in a frat, well first and foremost I would like one that attracts decent people to be around and that like to have a good time and make a good social network. Also, like any strait male, I would like a frat that throws good parties and attracts attractive women, so not to sound shallow, but you know what I mean. So, could you just let me know, which frats I would like in your opinion, only vandy students respond to this please, and if your a grad, only respond if you are a fairly recent grad, thanks.</p>
<p>i figure what the hell, here you go big guy.</p>
<p>the way "rush" here works is as follows: freshman guys can start out the first semester going to whatever fraternities they want. the fraternities make "rush lists" and periodically take kids off of the lists by "cutting" them. at the end of the semester if you get an invite to any of their winter christmas semi-formals, it's a pretty good bet (99%) that you're gonna get a bid come first week of second semester. i'm gonna list the fraternities in tiers roughly by how exclusive they are which is a pretty good correlation on how good looking the female groupies are. and since i'm feeling like a god damn big ole ball of information right now, i'm gonna give yall some info on each of em too</p>
<p>1st tier:
1. kappa alpha order (KA) - best aspect is tailgates. viewed as southern by some people, and while KA is very southern throughout SEC schools, it really isn't here. a lot of northern prep schoolers and just to give you a picture on how far it is from that repuation, they have an african american brother. absolutely nothing wrong with that i'm good friends with the guy, just an example.
2. delta kappa epsilon (deke) - a few years back before SAE got on campus, phi delt and KA were pretty much the top two and were both very southern. phi delt got kicked off pretty much permanently for some serious hazing violations and because DKE was low on members, became the new deke. doesn't throw as many big parties but has very good groupies and is known for the 6 or 7 semi or formal date parties they throw throughout the year
3. sigma alpha epsilon (SAE) - has moved up to top tier after rushing really hard. what that means is they try to find the guys they want and basically "recruit" the hell out of em. other fraternities kind of envy/hate them for doing that. one of the houses whose groupies are unfortunately pretty much only freshman girls that end up going to KA or DKE after first year. probably the most southern though and has some good ole boys.
4. beta theta pi (beta) - the most northern of the top tier. has a sleezball reputation. not very "fratty" also only popular w/ freshman girls and one of the biggest in pure numbers and pretty much will take anyone that isn't a dork</p>
<p>2nd tier:
1. PKA (pike) - northern. has a "coke" rep, but all the fraternities have guys who do coke, probably just not as belligerently. wears flat-brimmed hats and other not conservative clothes. nothing wrong with that but will never be respected by top tier fraternities for it. has good groupies.
2. SX (sigma chi) - popular. one of the biggest in pure numbers. don't really know what to describe them as they're just normal?
3. NU Society - sigma nu got kicked off campus a few years back for almost killing a kid. when vandy offered them a spot back on campus, they said no and now have great off campus parties (think of them as animal house).
4 & 5. ZBT & AEPi - the predominantly jewish fraternties. as vanderbilt has become more jewish in recent years, some good guys have gone to these two and are really helping out their stock
6. Phi Psi - so not fratty it makes my head heart. they wear basketball jerseys and what not. again, nothing wrong with that, just different types of guys. have heard they have all right groupies though so they should probably go here</p>
<p>3rd tier:
sigma nu - when NU society refused their offer to come back on campus, some guys created a new on campus sig nu
phi kappa
phi delt - same story as SigNu
lambda chi alpha (lamda chi)
Sig Ep
alpha tau omega (ato)</p>
<p>damn that's long, but seeing as how i already told you pretty much everything you would ever learn anyway, here's two more details:
being "cut" isn't the only way to get taken off lists. if you just stop going by the house that'll do the trick as well
all the christmas formals are on the same night so you choose your favorite if you get multiple invites. that way you only get one bid come second semester.</p>
<p>ttt, come on vandy guys and gals, help me out here, got 1 take on it, thank you, lets keep em coming.</p>
<p>most people agree beta and sae throw the best parties, KA sigma chi and pike maybe second, phi psi and nu are good. you just need to go where you feel most comfortable and you like the guys you meet, otherwise your 4 years will suck</p>
<p>I guess I'm old now...what's a flat-brimmed hat?
My comment would be that I've never seen anyone regret their fraternity choice after it's all done. Unlike sorority rush, which is relatively quick and very structured, you will have plenty of time to assess each group and it's members and decide for yourself where you fit in. It's one of the great times in your life, actually, going a lot of different houses and having a lot of fun.</p>
<p>couldn't agree more silicon. just go to where you fit and enjoy it. rush is one of the best semesters if not the best at college.</p>
<p>example of what i was talking about:
<a href="http://www.detroitathletic.com/catalog/Maroon.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://www.detroitathletic.com/catalog/Maroon.jpg</a></p>
<p>versus</p>
<p><a href="http://www.efreemancompany.com/gallery/gallery25-6.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://www.efreemancompany.com/gallery/gallery25-6.jpg</a>
or <a href="http://images.footballfanatics.com/productImages/_51000/FF_51995_l.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://images.footballfanatics.com/productImages/_51000/FF_51995_l.jpg</a></p>
<p>something nice looking at least...if you're even going to wear a hat which should really only be if it's sunny out or you're golfing or fishing. heck i agree with you i can't even keep up with these crazy fads most of the clothes i wear are the same brands and probably look the same as what my dad wore in school</p>
<p>I'm a current student at Vandy and I think there are definitely some corrections to be made to callingducks assessment of frats at vandy.</p>
<p>First tier -
KA - accurate description
SAE - they get a lot of hot southern chicks...the house where the vandy stereotypes go
Beta - I'll put them up here, but only because their parties are always well attended. A lot of people think they're still living off the popularity they gained a couple years back when they were the best frat on campus.</p>
<p>second tier
Pike - throw good parties with clever names (PIkes of the caribbean?) Definitely respected, but some think they're slipping a little
Deke - accurate description for the most part...not sure what their pledge class is like this year
AEPi - the better of the two predominately jewish frats...equal to pike this year in hot northern freshmen and sophomores girls
NU Society - always fun parties and it seems like they have a wider variety of party attendees than most frats. Located almost on peabody campus which is where those freshman girls will be living next year
Sigma Chi - accurate description
Phi-Psi - not a favorite of mine, but definitely has hot girls when i've been there</p>
<p>Third tier
the rest...haven't really been to these houses enough to comment</p>
<p>Can we get some more opinions on this? I'm interested in joining a fraternity, but not completely convinced I want to yet. Which has the best house?</p>
<p>can a guy or 2 describe the sororities?</p>
<p>are there any fraternities that are haze free?</p>
<p>NO, University keeps a close eye on this.</p>
<p>tier 1:
northern:
beta - popular with freshmen girls b/c of location near branscomb, known for their dance parties but been pretty weak this semester, many think getting way worse, very interesting to see what will happen when freshmen housing isnt 20 feet from their house
pike - big partiers (hence their particular reputation), good tailgates and late night parties, known for their groupies, dress less preppy/conservative than the other first tier frats</p>
<p>southern:
sae - southern gentlemen, very nice house that looks like a castle
KA - good tailgates, friday evenings, get the hot blond southern girls, although becoming less and less southern as mentioned before, they still dress very southern preppy.
dke -combination of dke and old phi delt (which used to be no doubt a very very good fraternity) solid parties, big gamblers, get good looking southern girls</p>
<p>the top tier frats host events with each other all the time, and some have stonger friendships than the others (eg: KA and Pike)</p>
<p>Tier 2:
Sigma Chi: Mediocre frat, get mediocre girls, some guys are cool but the frat is huge because they accept so many people so there are bound to be some weird kids, "friends" with girls
nu society/kappa sig: coming back on campus, they are pretty solid although somewhat sketchy, also known to dirty rush like non other
phi psi: washington dc kids, their parties are pretty fun but never really wild, more of a chill spot, known for their weird style of beer pong
aepi: a lot of jersey guidos, a lot like my description of sigma chi</p>
<p>too tired to do the rest but they arent really that great</p>
<p>Haha: "aepi: a lot of jersey guidos....."</p>
<p>Isn't AE Pi traditionally a Jewish based frat? Jersey guidos????? Just sounded funny to me....</p>
<p>this has been debated to death, read the best sororities at vandy thread there is a lot of fraternity talk on that one. heres the link: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vanderbilt-university/5162-best-sororities-vandy.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vanderbilt-university/5162-best-sororities-vandy.html</a></p>
<p>my opinion:</p>
<p>top tier:
sae
ka
beta
pike</p>
<p>second tier:
dke (arguably top tier)
sigmachi
nu
phi psi
aepi
zbt</p>
<p>third tier
ato
lambda chi
sig ep
sig nu</p>
<p>which frat is best (best parties...best girls...best fun) if you're NOT a collar-poppin, rich, white SOUTHERNER???</p>
<p>a lot has changed since the rankings posted earlier, particularly since a couple of these frats aren’t at vandy anymore. these things change from year to year. here’s a more updated ranking of the best frats at vandy:</p>
<p>Top Tier:
SAE
Beta
KA
Pike</p>
<p>Middle Tier:
Kappa Sig
Sigma Chi
Lambda Chi
DKE</p>
<p>Bottom Tier:
ZBT/AEPI
Phi Delt
ATO
Sigma NU</p>
<p>top tier:
sae
kappa sig (nu)
ka
beta</p>
<p>second tier:
dke (arguably top tier)
pike
sigmachi
aepi
zbt</p>
<p>third tier
ato
lambda chi
sig ep
sig nu </p>
<p>this is pretty accurate</p>
<p>Fratstar, i don’t know how you came up with that list, but it’s horribly outdated. sig ep hasn’t been on campus for a while. The tiers are in no particular order.</p>
<p>Top:
Beta
KA
SAE</p>
<p>Upper mid:
Sigma Chi
Pike</p>
<p>Middle:
Kappa Sig
Lambda Chi
ZBT
AEPi</p>
<p>Lower:
ATO
Sig Nu
Phi Kap</p>
<p>phi delt and deke are still finding their place because they dont have anyone older than sophomores due to IFC violations. Right now they probably fit in middle</p>
<p>agree with above list, except switch beta and pike’s tiers, make SAE first, and zbt before lambda chi</p>
