 There's a couple free pop-up blockers out there and I don't know which one is the best. What do you reccomend?

first, I would recommend changing your internet broswer to one of the following...
Firefox - http://www.getfirefox.com
Opera – www.opera.com
K-Meleon - http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/
Mozilla - http://www.mozilla.org/
Netscape - http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp
---or update your internet explorer to the newest version....
----this step will dramatically lower the number of pop-ups....

here are some pop-up blockers...
Google Toolbar - http://toolbar.google.com/firefox/index.html
NoAds - http://www.southbaypc.com/NoAds/
PopUp Stopper - http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html
Privoxy - http://www.privoxy.org/
Proxomitron - http://www.proxomitron.info/

----I personally think google toolbar is the best.....NoAds is also great, it allows to customize your pop-up blocking....
-----I think your internet company may also have pop-blockers too.....

I use firefox my self and I never get any pop-ups.......

any other opinions? :p

google toolbar logs all the places you visit or search for and reports that, along with your computer id number back to google :) enjoy!

I use MSN toolbar.

Have no fear, your privacy is not compromised when using the toolbar.
Yes, Google does keep a record of your search history.
Google collects all this information even if you enter a query directly into Google.com without using the Toolbar......
There is a function called "page rank"...which show you the popularity of a webpage....google collects the sites you have visited to provide this service.
All these information are not personally identifiable....so really, there is no harm done to you.
Besides, google will give you a big warning when you try to install the toolbar ......and you can disable page rank pretty easily.....

well I installed the google toolbar :D. Thanks for everyone's help.

You could also use: www.avantbrowser.com

Avant browser is pretty sweet

I <3 Firefox. Tabbed browsing makes my life SO much easier.

I refuse to change from IE don't ask why I'll scare you

Then scare me....:>)

because I've had IE for so long and it's like my "safe place". It may be unreliable, but it's always unreliable. I depend on it being unreliable. It's like my friend. We have a relationship

An IE fetish....

some website only looks right in IE. and some dynamic dHTML scripts only works in IE and not firefox.

i love firefox though.

I've decided I must give up IE. That's why I'm doing a trial of Firefox. I've decided that after a week I don't like it, I'll uninstall. But if it's as great as everyone says, I'll keep it. Do you reccomend using thunderbird?

You are giving up your friend!!!???

Anyway, try avant while you are at it and opera, they are some good browsers too....as for thunderbird....try it and you might like it....

Yes unfortenately. I do LOVE IE. But saying this computer doesn't have much virus protection (my father ) I need the most stable option. sigh

opera and thunderbird are packages which include email client and newsgroup and other features. if you're only looking for a web browser, firefox is the browser-only version. i don't really like opera because it seems to take up too much memory and CPU resources.

firefox owns all other browsers. period.

IE is tied very closely to the OS which leaves it vulnerable to attacks. Go Firfox all the way!
