I am looking into going to UF next year as a freshman and was wondering which dorm is best. I am looking for the typical freshman experience as I am out of state and want to meet new people. I was thinking either Jennings or Broward, so if anyone can give me more insight on those it would much appreciated.
I heard Broward Hall was the best dorm for freshman, but I also would like to hear from people who have lived in the dorms to decide
I actually lived in an economy triple in Broward my freshman year @Jgator5 . Not sure I would say the living conditions in Broward were ideal. It was a tiny space to share with two other roommates and on top of that I had to share a bathroom at the end of the hall with 10 other girls. My initial plan was to live in Jennings but by the time I went to register there were no spots left.
If I would have known about Windsor Hall at the time I probably would have lived there. It isn’t owned by UF so signing up for rooms is much easier. I ended up spending more time at Windsor than Broward because there was way more space and even a private bathroom.
Jennings and Broward are good dorms for freshmen. But honestly any dorm will have a lot of freshmen in them, as they are typically occupied by freshman. I currently live in Tolbert and practically everyone on my floor is a freshman.
Jennings and Broward are generally known to being freshman dorms here, especially since its near sorority row, the Turlington area (where a lot of classes are held) and Broward dining. However, when it comes time to filling out your housing contract, if you are not one of the first students to pick housing you are most likely not going to be able to pick Jennings or Broward as housing as these two dorms fill up very quickly.
My DS lived in a double Broward. It was redone in the last few years. He met a ton of people and enjoyed living there .
I would say Broward would be better in terms of convenience. Also, one side of it was renovated last year and has an elevator. It’s right next to Broward dining if you’re getting the meal plan and from what I’ve heard its a pretty social dorm. It’s also closer to classes than Jennings. One other suggestion I have would be Rawlings. I was in Rawlings my freshman year and I really liked it. It is definitely the most convenient dorm on campus. It has a little convenience store with a Subway attached to it (which is really nice whenever you want to get a late night snack/meal and the dining hall is closed). It is also has a major bus stop in front of it which has tons of bus routes. It’s right next to Broward too so it’s pretty close to the dining hall as well as classes. One thing I will say though is that the aesthetic is not as nice as Broward or Jennings because it is not as newly renovated. In terms of room sizes, I would say all of them have about the same size rooms.
