For anyone who is a current student or recent alum, what is the best freshman dorm? I know most (if not all) freshman are put on South Campus, but any suggestions?

you definitely want to be put on south. being on main isnt a social death-sentence or anything, but it’s cool to be able to hang out with all the other freshmen and not have to hike back and forth.
in terms of the ones on south, they’re really all the same.
stanford is where I live right now, it’s the 5 floor co-ed one. it’s where all the athletes are, its crazy at times. but really, they’re really all the same on south

any way you can request south campus or a particular dorm??

As I understand it , being tripled or being assigned other than south is in reverse order of deposits, meaning early deposit students have priority and late depositers or wait list acceptances have the highest chance of being tripled or housed away from south.
As for specific dorm request , applying to a learning community will get you into that specific dorm hosting that learning community.
From Villanova FAQ:
"How are new students assigned to residence halls?
Freshman residents may not request a specific building or type of room. In general, housing assignments are based on the date your admission deposit is processed. Other factors which guide your housing assignment may include: participation in a designated Learning Community, documented medical needs, and/or preferences specified in a questionnaire accompanying the housing contract.

I am sure that there are exceptions to these policies , but you would need to have an extenuating circumstance or some pull at the institution.

I have to disagree with rollz4. Good Counsel is definitely the best dorm on south and that’s where you want to be. The rooms are huge and they all have sinks. The dorm was just recently renovated and the lounges are really nice.

Good Counsel has the biggest rooms and they’re the nicest, but it’s also the “most boring” dorm this year at at least. Stanford is smaller but supposedly more fun. So it’s a trade-off either way…smaller rooms with more fun, or bigger rooms and not so much fun.

Yeah, Good Counsel is definitely the nicest this year, but it’s def. labelled as the most boring. St. Mo’s, Katherine, McGuire, and Caughlin are ALL decently nice. Stanford is probably the worst "amenity"wise, but it well makes up for itself socially.

You can’t go wrong, I guess. Each has their perks.
You will find out about two weeks before orientation (if its the same as last year)- where you are living and who your roomate is.

I guess the old saying just goes, you can’t choose it, so make the best out of where you are! There are definite perks to each situation. :)
