sorry, when I wrote this i was on my phone and somehow couldn’t work the search so i just posted a new thread. Thanks for the references :)

I don’t understand what everyone has against Perkins. I love it here: the only thing is that I have to pack a couple more things as I don’t go back in between classes. But we’ve got a great lounge, and we’re the perfect size to have a real community.

The LCD TV’s in Perkins aren’t something you’ll find everywhere.

I actually like Perkins a lot (I don’t live there, but I’ve been before). It’s just too darn far! I was there today and nearly died from the hike back (I had a heavy backpack on and on top of that this god-awful heat—terrible allergies)! Other than the distance factor Perkins is a lovely building.

How far away is Perkins from everything?

from everything? That’s a lot of different numbers. How about the main green? 1/2 mile.

I walk a heck of a lot farther than Perkins all the time.

Is it separated from campus or is the campus just really big? (I sound really stupid, haha)

<a href=“Home | FACILITIES MANAGEMENT | Brown University”>Home | FACILITIES MANAGEMENT | Brown University;

There are other, upperclassmen, dorms near Perkins, as well as other campus buildings. Compared to most freshmen dorms, it’s farther away from a cafeteria and classrooms. And rooms are on the small side.

Ok so the deal with Perkins is that, for BROWN it’s far from campus. Brown’s campus is relatively closed-in, though, so that’s not saying much. Half a mile to the main green, but I believe it’s the closest freshman dorm to Barrus & Holley, where engineering and lots of math classes are. As modestmelody said, the real problem is that it’s not near any cafeterias: so even Pembroke, which is about as far from “everything” as Perkins, but both The Gate (for late-night snacks) and the V-Dub (our other eatery) are literally under the dorms. Whereas our nearest eatery is Joe’s (personally I like it better than The Gate), but it’s two blocks away. That doesn’t stop us from making 1 AM runs to it, but it’s different. And our dining hall, the Ratty, takes walking another two-ish blocks. Again, not a big deal, but for BROWN it’s about as far as things get.

Oh, that’s weird, I didn’t know Brown was separated into city blocks like that.

Hope College is the best dorm, without a doubt.

But in all truthfulness, there’s pluses and minuses to every dorm, but some dorms tend to garner a lot more pride than others.

@Jaddua Brown is interwoven into Providence. Many Brown academic departments just look like houses on the street.
