best garages?

i'm living in the honors quad this fall, and i was wondering what would be the best parking garage choices. i wasn't going to bring my car at all but my parents are insisting since they'll be living so far away. i see that TSG, SWG and SAG are the closest, and according to this paper i have, SAG is the closest of the three (to the honors quad). however, if i got in late at night or something, it seems like it would be kind of sketchy to be walking alone back to campus across the Drag. TSG and SWG seem like they're more confined to the campus area. my mom looked at the parking map and had a mini freak-out and started giving me this lecture about self-defense and pepper spray and mace and yada yada yada...

what are y'all's experiences with the parking garages?

You have to move your car out during game days.

I know, i’ve read that =/ where do you have to move them?

Outside on the parking meters I’m guessing. I’m probably going to go with Dobie’s garage. Its $1050 for the year and I don’t have to move it out for game days. Its pretty convenient since I live right across at the Dobie dorms, but I still think the price is a little outrageous.

Actually, you don’t have to move your car at all the garages. One advantage of being on the north side is that the garages are impacted less by sporting events. My DS was in Carothers last year and had his car at SAG. He never had to move it. I think TSG is the same (not sure). SWG is a garage they use for football parking, so I’m pretty sure you have to move if your permit is there. However, they do give you another garage to park in during that time period. SWG is also further away from the quad, so SAG or TSG will probably be your best options.

Be sure to order the pass ASAP -some garages fill up fast.

You can’t apply for resident garage permits until after housing assignments are made. After you get your dorm assignment, go to the parking website and it will tell you how to apply for a garage permit.

yeah, the lady on the phone said that soon after dorm assignments are made they’ll send out an email with info about the drawing for the R (garage) permits. thanks for all the help! and i’m certainly glad i might not have to move my car out every time there’s a game, that sounds like chaos! haha

What would be the closest to the McCombs School of Business that most likely won’t ask me to move my car out during game days? SAG?

Other than Brazos (the #1 most filled up garage since it’s right next to Jester, and the one that everybody has to move their cars out of on football weekends) the rest are all far away from McCombs. It’s your choice at that point basically.

How much are they per semester/year?

$700 compared to $1050 @ Dobie. eh…

Also if you get an on campus parking permit like a garage permit, you have access to spaces that become “ANY UT PERMIT” parking on weekends/evenings. This would allow you to park right next to some dorms and such, if you wanted to stop by somewhere real quick to go to a friend’s place, for example.
