Best Golf Boarding School?

Best Golf Boarding School?

Hotchkiss has a nine-hole golf course.

Stevenson School in Pebble Beach is right next to Spyglass Hill.

Peddie has a good 18-hole course on campus, and a very competitive team in New Jersey this year.

Search for schools which offer golf:

If you are looking for a son, I’d suggest you check out Woodberry Forest. That school has a lot going for it.

I’m back. You gotta play people, right? So, when considering the athletic side of BS choices, the league that the school plays in and the availability of other competition are important considerations in addition to the facilities and coaches on campus. The level of the competition, the PG rules, the accessibility to family that wants to see games are all factors to take into account. Peddie plays other good golfing schools in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League such as L’ville, Blair, Hill. There are lots of sponsored events in the golf-rich NJ-PA area. This in addition to being one of the better co-ed, mid-size schools (about 550) in the nation.

Stevenson – right next to Spyglass, short walk to Pebble Beach, Poppy Hill, Cypress Hill, Spanish Bay, and a remarkable country club course. Spyglass is the golf team’s home course (!)

Taft also has a golf team/golf course

Choate kids drive like 10 minutes to this country club called lyman orchards that has a beast course.

Portsmouth Abbey has a course right next to campus (Carnegie Abbey Club)…and has boys and girls golf teams.

Tidbit: Choate’s brand new Kohler Environmental Center was originally supposed to be the Kohler golf course, but the city of Wallingford considers golf courses to be chemical dumps, so the money was spent on a more environmentally friendly option.

If you’re only considering NE boarding schools, hands down the best for golf is Deerfield Academy. They consistently place (or win) the annual Kingswood Oxford Invitational, where 25 teams from around New England meet in an 18 hole stroke play tournament. They also are a hop skip and a jump from Crumpin Fox Country Club, a course that hosts US Open Qualifiers, and is ranked top ten in MASS by most magazines. They also have a great JV squad that cultivates successful players.

I recently graduated prep school and played varsity golf, ask away if you have any more questions…

Stevenson wins hands down, if you can take California. Deerfield’s nice but you just can’t beat playing golf year round (at Pebble Beach, Cypress, Spyglass, & MPCC) for someone who wants to play NCAA D1 Golf. Stevenson is in the heart of California’s golfing community in Pebble Beach.
