Best Graduate Programs in the UK

I know I have four years until I go to graduate school and so it isn't a huge deal right now to know exactly where I want to go to graduate school, but I would like to be able to set my mind to a goal. I've already decided on a couple of schools in the US, but I was wondering if anybody on CC knows any good universities in England or the UK that have good Master's Degree Programs in either English or Journalism (or both).

Bump please :)

Get back to us once you have decided on an exact speciality (e.g. early Victorian literature). Graduate programs in the UK are highly specialized and individual universities might be much stronger in some specialities than others. Take a look at the literature options at Oxford: [Masters Programmes | Faculty of English](http://www.english.ox.ac.uk/prospective-graduates/masters-programmes)

Also, unless you get an external fellowship, you should expect to cover the full cost of your graduate education yourself.

Thanks Barlum. If I were going for a specific type of Masters in English it would probably be either English Literature of the 19th of 20th Centuries :)

What sort of 19th or 20th century literature? Do you have a favorite author or set of authors? A favorite style? A favorite theme? If you want the Master’s degree as a stepping stone to a PhD (and I assume you do because it makes absolutely no sense to invest into a terminal Master’s degree in literature), you want to be at a university with professors who are experts in exactly the field you intend to specialize in.

I am not expecting an answer, by the way. My point is that graduate education is so personalized that it makes absolutely no sense to think about the “best” program when you are just starting college. If you are just looking for a prestigious program to fantasize about, you can’t go wrong with Oxford or Cambridge.

Haha, okay, sounds good to me. I can wait a little while I suppose  Thanks Barlum.
