Best Growth opportounity for current MT BFA majoy who didn't land summer work

My d's dream of landing a summer stock job didn't pan out and, while she is getting excellent training at school, feels she can't go a whole summer without doing something to advance her artistic growth. What are the best summer coaching/intensive programs for collegel age MT's or does anyone have any other creative ideas?

Not necessarily direct training, but how about community theatre? Our local community theatre shows are often cast with college theatre/MT majors home on break. The last two summers have offered wonderful shows… Into the Woods and Secret Garden… both great vocal musicals.

Are there areas she feels she needs more intensive work in? For example, if she feels she needs more acting training, she may want to investigate something like Stella Adler. If she needs more dance, she might look at something like BOCOs summer dance intensive or Broadway Dance Center programs. Is she a freshman? I have to say many schools do not push kids to do summer stock their first summer, for many reasons. 1). Many have been away from home for such an extended period of time they need to go home, get refreshed, have time with family and friends and get back to school ready to work again in the Fall. 2). Summer stock auditions pit you against all levels of actors - you may want to have some more training/experience before entering the fray. If performances are what she wants, I agree that summer community theater may be a good thing to try. And perhaps she can take voice/dance/acting lessons periodically? There are other summer programs like TPAP or BTP that cater to college and beyond but I believe their deadlines have passed. Best wishes to her!!

I don’t know if Cap21’s program is filled yet, but they offer an auditioned MT Conservatory Summer Intensive for college students and adults. I would love to get an idea if it is helpful for students who are already studying for their BFA?

I don’t know where you live and the ideas already offered are good ones, depending on where you live. Your daughter can also look into Improv classes (some schools have 3 week intensives over the summer). There are still auditions being listed for summer stock and in NYC some summer fringe festival shows that haven’t even posted auditions yet. She might also want to look into some of the smaller summer stock programs for internships, again, depending on where you live. Good luck to her!
