Hi, I got accepted to UNC and I’m going to attend there in the fall. however, I have no idea which residenc hall I should pick. I’m pretty introverted and shy so I want a hall which is social and I could make friends easily but also one which doesn’t have that much of a party scene so I dont get distracted from my studies. Keep in mind that the only halls in which freshmen can live in are Hinton James, Craige, Connor, Ehringhaus, and Manning East and West. Please help, I don’t want to be a loner my freshmen year of college! Thanks!
Congrats on your acceptance! I posted about this in the questions thread here if you want to read more, but here’s my opinion:
I don’t really think it matters where you live. People say the high rises/suite style residence halls are the most social, but in my experience (I live in a suite style hall), that doesn’t always hold true. Some of my friends in Manning West and East have really really social halls. My best piece of advice would be to pick a roommate you’re comfortable living with through Roomsurf, Facebook, etc. and go from there. Don’t get too hung up on which dorm you’re in. People of all kinds are at UNC and you will find a great group of friends.
I wouldn’t be too worried about being distracted from your studies. There are quiet hours every night, and if it gets really bad, you can always let your RA know.
Good luck!
