Best hall/quad?

I was wondering what you guys think the best hall/quad is at stony brook. I haven't come accross any pictures online, so it is hard to tell. Do students even get to choose a quad on the preferences survey?

Specifically, which quad has the best facilities and atmosphere?

Ok, can anyone answer whether we get to choose which quad/hall to be on? If so, when?

As far as which quad is the best, it depends what kind of atmosphere you're looking for... lots of parties or none, corridor or suite, closer to the academic mall or more scenic, etc. I'm not sure how transfers get housed, but freshmen currently get assigned a quad based on their Undergraduate College, which is at least partially decided by an interests survey they fill out.

Personally, I like Tabler quad the best... it's by far the prettiest quad (there's a grassy area in the middle of all the buildings that full of gorgeous cherry trees and has lots of benches you can hang out on), we've got the Tabler Arts Center which always has some interesting things going on, and it's pretty close to places where I have a lot of classes like Javits, SBS, Life Sciences, and CMM/BLL. Plus I'm in Hand, so I have a kitchen! Add to that the fact that Tabler's getting totally renovated over the summer, and I think in the fall we'll be the best hands down :) Of course, culture can vary a lot by building... the one I live in now is a pretty good balance between quiet and social, but there's one that currently has a reputation for being a crack-den--but that same building was not nearly as bad when I lived there a couple of years ago; things can change very rapidly when you're talking about college.

I see, I guess we don't really have a choice for halls. But how do they know if we want a corridor or suite style dorm, is that asked of transfers?
