BEST HOUSING FOR TRANSFER STUDENT LOOKING FOR FRESHMAN EXPEREINCE

Hello,

I’m proud to say I’ve recently been accpeted into UNC’s journalism program. As of now I’m trying to figure out where’s the best place for me to say on campus to get that freshman expereience since I’m coming from a community college. I don’t really like loud places, but I do like interacting with different people. I’m not interested in sharing a bathroom with 8 different people, but I will be open to sharing with 4 people. I just wanted to get an idea of which dorms are considered the best and the worst to stay in. And I wouldn’t mind hearing more about Ram Village. The apartments seem nice, but when I read reviews on it, it seemed absolutely terrible. Just need some advice on this decision.

Thank you!

If you are looking for a “freshman experience,” then some of the residence halls on South Campus would probably be your best bet. You might want to look on the UNC website for pdf versions of the housing layouts; but the Manning East and Manning West residences would probably be your best bet if you don’t want 8 persons sharing a bathroom.

What year are you? If you will be a Junior then you might want to consider the Residential Leaning Programs for transfer students in the Carmichael dorm. I believe that dorm has suites of 7 or 8 students.

Another option is North campus which has two corridor style dorms with a freshman experience programs. However, it might not fit your definition of the freshman experience. It will likely be much quieter and less rowdy. In past years, those dorms would have one floor each of freshman men and women. No ideal if that is the case this year. Not the same experience as the high rise freshman dorms on south campus.

Not sure what you are looking for. You mention wanting the freshman experience yet are interested in the Ram Village which will likely have zero freshman. Living in an apartment is vastly different than living in a traditional dorm.
