I have recently accepted the UIUC offer and is thinking about majoring in Accounting. Since there are so much options out there, I'm wondering which dorm would be best for me in terms of location, convenience, and comfort.

Assuming there is no limit on how much I can spend on housing, which dorm would provide me the shortest distance to most of my GE classes and the adequate comfort and quietness a Freshman needs. Thank you guys so much for answering!

I will give you some recommendations about housing shortly, but first i want to comment on an element of your post. You mentioned wanting adequate comfort and quietness a freshman needs. First, forget about comfort. No freshman dorm is going to provide you the comfort you are used to living with your parents in the united states. You also get used to it in about two weeks.

Second, your freshman dorm room is not for studying. It is where you go to sleep, bath, eat and make friends when you are not busy studying elsewhere. Don’t plan on studying in your room. There are so many other places to study where you can vary your surroundings and stimulate your creativity. Explore and find the best spots for you. A good freshman dorm will have people moving about talking, laughing, partaking of sports or other extracurriculars. The residents get to know each other, and care about each other.

Also, you mentioned taking accounting. Thats great, but the business school is not somewhere you do much solitary studying. even for accounting, there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. You will learn as much from your fellow students as you do the faculty. Live somewhere you can get to know your fellow students

That said, closest to the BIF and Quad where you will take almost all of your classes are:

Ikenberry North and South (with many freshman, diverse residents and very social),
IT (quieter, private baths, lousy food, more homogenous population) and
Bromley (less social than Ikenberry, better food than IT, still very homogenous population).

I highly recommend Newman Hall, one block west of the quad. As a freshman, a majority of your classes will be on/near the Quad.

If you are studying business, then the more social and human interaction you get, (as long as it doesn’t get in the way of your classes) the better. My advice would be to get into either Ikenberry North or Ikenberry South. The dorms are the best of the public dorms, except for Busey Evans which is only for girls, and is reasonably close to the Business buildings. Also, Ikenberry (which is the same as the six pack) is the most social and is a heck of a lot of fun.
