Best housing options for a Carlson student?

My son was accepted to the Carlson school of business. Any recommendations for housing this late in the process? Hopefully there are still good options available.

If you haven’t applied to campus housing you are going to be on the bottom of the list as it opened Nov.1 and it’s first come, first served…unless, your son finds a roommate (try the facebook U of M class of 2023 page for starters) that applied early since the housing goes whoever between the two applied first. Just FYI, YOU MUST APPLY BY MAY 1st to be guaranteed housing by UMN, regardless of whether you have a roommate, I’d do this soon.

Middlebrook is on the West Bank which is where the majority of the Carlson classes are but lots of freshman lib arts classes are all over so that may be the case for your son. The reality is that any of the dorms are fine as far as proximity except Bailey which is on St Paul campus. If your son gets put there, which is likely since you are applying really late, apply for a transfer as soon as you find out through the housing office as many people opt out of other dorms, especially those put in Centennial that don’t want single rooms (this is not a bad thing FYI). There are many private options out there but you better start looking and figure out roommates if you are going to do that as those also start filing in fall.

As far as nice vs not, all of the dorms are pretty decent, some yes, are better than others but it’s all what you make of it.

@UMNMom - thank you for the information. This is very useful for us. I will have him make the housing deposit ASAP.
