Hi there. I am in my second year of community college (19 years old) and I am looking to transfer to UofSC for Fall of 2015. I would like to live on campus and I was wondering which housing option was the best for me. I am a Media Arts major and I am a male (if that helps). I prefer apartment or suite style because I like privacy, but I want to meet people. My top dorm choices were (in no particular order):
-Any of the Quads (West, East, South)
Woodrow
The Roost
Thornwell
Thank you for your time and if anyone has any more advice with this, please let me know! I don't know anyone at this school and I tour this Friday! God bless!

Be sure and ask about housing options for transfers when you tour. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to live on campus as a transfer. Most students move off campus after freshman year. There are some new dorms in the works but not sure it will be by that time. Occasionally there is space available for transfers, but you’ll probably have to take whatever is available in that case. The Roost is only for Gateway (freshman program) students.

Thank you for your advice. I really hope that is not true, but I will definitely take your advice and ask about that on my tour. Do you (or anyone else) happen to know about any safe and okay apartments in Columbia that isn’t too expensive, yet close to the campus? Again, thank you so much for answering!

There are lots of student apartments around. Do a search and look at some of other threads about off-campus housing in Columbia. I’m a fan of living on campus, but many off campus options are actually cheaper and lots have individual leases, come furnished and have at least some utilities included. Most geared toward students also run shuttles.
