Does each house have specific characteristics?

Colby rotates things around in the dorms–some are chem-free, and it changes each year. D is in a chem-free this year, and LOVES it. It’s a very “bonded” group, with tons of activities/parties/outings etc. all the time.

Frat row is great for a freshman. Because of the small dorm-sizes, it’s easy to get to know your Dorm-mates. Having friends in your dorm can be a great resource to have as a freshman.

But you guessed it: each dorm has it’s own presonality. For example, Foss is typically home to a good bit of crunchy granolas. Any specific personality you’d like your dorm to have?

FRAT ROW (ROBERTS ROW):: (30-40 residents/dorm)

Treowrgy: This place is horrible unless you are the CA and get a double to yourself. (Quiet this year)
Grossman: Art and Music House. Pretty cool place.
Goddard-Hodgkins: Similar to Treworgy but the “Eco-dorm”
Pierce: Newly renovated, palace.
Pe-Wi: Same as Pierce
Drummond: Better than Treworgy but not great. Lots of parties
Piper: Not renovated but still a pretty cool dorm, low key parties.

THE QUAD:
Averill: Similar to frat row, very nice inside, renovated in 2000ish (40-55 people I think)
Johnson: Same as Averill
West Quad: Smaller rooms, but a nice dorm. Pretty friendly. Chem Free this year. (80-100 people)
East Quad: Same as West but not chem free this year.
AMS: Built in '97. This place is a palace but the units are disconnected so not very social.

HILLSIDE:
All dorms are unrenovated and pretty gross if you ask me. Very social (25 people per dorm)

HEIGHTS:
Older dorm but biggest rooms for freshmen. A lot of upper class-men quads. VERY LOUD and lots of parties. (130 people) kind of antisocial on the day to day.

DANA:
Has a dining hall in it. Biggest dorm on campus (150 people) its okay but not great. Sports dorm, lots of parties. Loud.

MARY-LOW/COBURN:
Very nice, newly renovated good mix. (110 people) I want to live there. Mary Low coffee House.

FOSS-WOODMAN:
Same as Mary-Low/Coburn but foss dining hall is there.

SENIOR APARTMENTS:
Well, freshmen cant live there. 170 students, very nice, lots of parties.

Just started a new thread about this. Looks like Charlie and I had the same Idea, haha.

Charlie, would you be opposed re-posting your comment in the thread I created? It be cool to have one “housing” resource… maybe get a sticky?

Best of luck PWilcox!

Thanks all! I applied Regular, so I won’t hear for a while, but I hope I get to be a mule!

I know that I shouldn’t worry about this until I’m actually accepted, but what are the best/most fun COOT (The Colby Outing trips-I think) programs??

You cant go wrong with any of them. The COOT leaders are AMAZING. I am applying to be on hall staff, so unfortunately I cant be a COOT leader. The trips are all great. I did canoeing and loved it.
