Best I-Banking Firms?

Hey guys,

This fall I'm going to be looking for my post-junior year internship. I'm kind of interested in getting one in I-Banking, so I can really see if I like it or not. I have a 3.5 GPA at Illinois with a major in Finance. I currently have a Corp Finance internship with a F500 company as well.

Any suggestions for where in the chicagoland I should look? I open to other investment related internships as well.

Thanks!

There are 100+ firms in Chicago, but some of the better ones:

Bulge Bracket:
Bank of Americal Merrill Lynch
Barclays (I think, not sure)
Citigroup
Credit Suisse
Deutsche Bank
Goldman Sachs
J.P. Morgan
Morgan Stanley
UBS

Boutique:
Greenhill
Houlihan Lokey (some argue middle market)
Lazard
Moelis

Middle Market:
BMO
Keybanc
Lincoln International
PNC (I think, not sure)
Robert Baird
William Blair

The Chicago banking market has changed a lot over the last 10-20 years with the takeovers of Bank One, Continental, etc. As a result, Chicago is now a second-tier financial city, although there are some great hedge funds, such as Citadel, and great private equity funds, such as Madison Dearborn. Of the I-Banks, UBS is still doing some interesting things in Chicago, although many of the other bulge bracket firms are just doing local business out of Chicago, such as bond sales. If you really want to have a career in investment banking, then you should look for an internship in New York this summer. Good luck, Jackuk

Thanks guys. Other than a traditional I-Banking internship, what other internship roles would be good experience in investments?
