Best I can get for around 25k/year tuition?

My budget ranges from 24-30k each year for tuition only. and most good public schools would cost 32-36k just for tuition, just around 5-10k above my budget. I need to know which great undergraduate business schools would be a high chance of giving out merit scholarships to me with these conditions of mine:

  • International & transfer student.
  • Approx. GPA upon transferring from community college: 3.82-3.85
  • A few student clubs attended. (no sports)
  • High TOEFL score and hopefully good essay to work on.

I’m already considering Seattle U as I’m currently in WA state and I think it is a quite easy reach, their best scholarship would put me at 24k/year tuition which is absolutely within my budget range, but I would still prefer to go to schools with better academic reputation. Saw that Boston U’s Presidential Scholarship would reduce the tuition to 29k/year which is crazy good of a deal for me, but I have no idea how competitive is it going to be. Possibility?

So, even though I’m not looking for a free ride, a range of 5-10k for public universities and 15-25k for private universities would do me wonder. Only public school I know that offer scholarship is OSU (Fisher), which might be no more than decent and I don’t even know how much am I going to get as international transfer student. School’s reputation is the deal closer, too bad I might have got the wrong parents so I can’t go anywhere I want LOL.

Would private school be a better shot than public schools for scholarships?

?? You are drawing an artificial distinction between tuition and all the other expenses you would incur. Regardless of where you attend and pay tuition, you need to eat, sleep, pay for health insurance, etc.

You need to focus on the entire costs, not tuition.

You also need to focus on elements other than “school reputation”. Exactly what facts are you using to determine reputation? And why are you not focused on colleges in your own country if you don’t think OSU is more than “decent”?

Are you considered instate for Washington state if you are an international student? Are those scholarships you mention for transfer students?

I think Temple’s school of business tution is $34,000 a year. They have some transfer scholarships $1,000-$5,000

U Alabama tuition is $28,000, most transfer scholarships restricted to AL community college students. Are you a member of Phi Theta Kappa?

What is your TOTAL budget each year for tuition, room, board, books, health insurance, and personal expenses.

Where is link that shows that you’d get THAT MUCH in merit from Seattle??

Few transfers get much merit. Are you sure that $24K scholarship is even open for transfers? The two named scholarships for transfers are for US Citizens and permanent residents/resident aliens intending to become US citizens. It also doesn’t list the amounts. https://admit.washington.edu/costs-and-financial-aid/scholarships/transfer

You need to go and talk to the transfer advisor at your community college. That person will likely have some suggestions for you. Your international student status S going to affect the cost of attendance for you…you will be paying the OOS rate. The transfer advisor will know places that accept transfers, and where getting some kind of aid is possible.

Remember that you won’t qualify for any U.S. federally funded aid at all.

But do talk to,that transfer advisor. I’m sure you aren’t the first international student at the school.

Transfers don’t have access to most top merit scholarships.
You’re in tough predicament, although you’re graded and TOEFL are excellent.
I know UMN twin cities has scholarships for international transfers.

@blossom I have to spend around 5 times more for tuition alone to enter a U.S. institution, and I don’t even mind. I hope it’s nothing more than my wording, shouldn’t have said the word ‘decent’ but I am just thinking about getting into a university with higher academic ranking, that’s it. I know OSU is above average but who doesn’t want to go to a more reputable school anyway? Also, I am saying 25k maximum because I know that’s the amount I can afford annually excluding my room & boards, misc, etc. I don’t even know why was it difficult for you to get all of my points after all?

@mom2collegekids https://www.seattleu.edu/undergraduate-admissions/finances/scholarships/transfer/
My parents didn’t specify EXACTLY how much they are willing to pay all-in, but I know that they highly encourage going to a university which tuition costs less than 30k a year, so a scholarship might help reduce that.

You need to speak with your parents again about the costs of college. Make sure that all of you are clear about what they can pay. When they said 30k in tuition, they may have really meant 30k total. Work out a full budget including meals, housing, transportation, books, etc.

Where are you seeing that an int’l transfer student will get that much merit from Seattle?

@happymomof1 it is just the tuition. i have talked about it with my parents more than you know.

@mom2collegekids the link i sent you on my previous reply.
