okay so this isnt really a question, i'm just SO FREAKING ECSTATIC RIGHT NOW! haha i just got back from my HOUR AND FORTY minute long interview (one-on-one) for princeton... i've had four other ivy interviews and this was by far the best . I'm just so happy, if you want details or have questions, just ask!!

and if you also had a stellar interview, please share :)

Where did you interview?

Did you ask about the Princeton elitism?

Who was your interviewer, and what was he / she like?

Okay, I don’t really care what anyone says about interviews counting for nothing in terms of admissions… if you have a really amazing interview (like the one you just had!) it can seriously change your WHOLE outlook on the school. Before interviewing, I would have rather gone to MIT than Yale. But after a terrible MIT interview (the guy was stuffy, boring, only cared about my scores, and provided no answers to any of my questions) and an AMAZING Yale interview, everything changed. Suddenly, Yale seemed so cool because she provided such great insider info on it, and could totally relate to everything I said. So now, Yale’s only competitor for my heart is Princeton. lol

The point is, interviews are SO important, if not for admissions, then just for the way you feel about the school. I know there are plenty of people who would call me dumb, and tell me not to judge MIT based on one crappy interview (and they’re totally right, I know MIT is a great school), but after having that ONE interview that really rocks, you just get so pumped to go there!!

I interviewed at a Starbucks

No, however we did chat about volunteer opportunities, which somehow led to the affluence of Princeton (the town). However he said that Princeton (university) is very diverse, and there isn’t really an air of elitism; of course there is a bit, like any school, however it isn’t dominating or anything.

My interviewer was a Bio prof at my local university, he was orignally a European int’l student who applied to Princeton for his PhD. He was really nice and we were both interested in the same fields, bio and math. It was truly a pleasure to meet him!

And I completely agree with you pink!
Princeton was defs up there with my top choices, but after this rewarding experience, and after finding out that princeton is great for my field of study from someone who experienced it first hand, I am leaning more towards it. It was a million times better than my Yale interview.

If I had to rank my interview experiences (not my top choice schools)
it would be something like this:

Congratulations on a great experience.
Your interviewer did a fine job, which was to present the school well. Please don’t take this as an indication of your admissions chances. The admissions folks have your full application to review, which your alum doesn’t. They also know the breadth of the application pool.
Good not bad, but likely not important, except for your feelings toward the school.

the same thing happened to me…my interview lasted about the same amount of time
and Princeton definitely went higher on my list…but i am wondering will the interview make as much of a difference as i hope it will? my grades and stuff are really up there and im hoping this will really set me apart but if there is a college admissions officer reading this, will my interview make a big difference?

My experience was the opposite… my Yale interview was PHENOMENAL. I was really concerned about being a girl and going into engineering at an ivy league (which is more know for humanites, law, art, theater, etc). However, she happened to have 3 kids, all of whom attended Yale for the sciences (and one was a girl.) So she knew EXACTLY what I was talking about, and she completely answered all of my questions and drove all of the dumb stereotypes about ivies and engineering out of my mind.

After that, I was obsessed with Yale!

I just had my Princeton interview, and it was pretty mediocre. Not terrible like my MIT one, but not amazing like my Yale one. I was kinda disappointed, just because I was really looking forward to the interview to get me pumped about Princeton… but that just didn’t happen.

But I’m so happy that it happened for you! Good luck!! :)

@ pink:
well remember that the interviewer doesn’t necessarily represent the university… i.e if the interviewer is really boring and apathetic, it doesnt mean their school is too, so dont worry :)

my princeton interview was awesome too
even though it was just an hour…he made me SURE that P is my first choice
he was a history major and im looking more into the engineering side so not much common on the major side but we did have the same taste in music/movies

he asked about my school, my ecs and the usual
i think he was kinda taken aback cuz most of the people who he interview here had excellent math/science scores and a lot of ecs relating to the same but although i have that stuff…i have a lot of stuff on the literary side too :)

im like ecstatic and i was JUMPING by the end of the interview esp. when he told me that india needs more ppl like you :D

as for his amazing experince at P…that was he icing on the cake :)

My interview lasted about 35 mins. on PHONE straight from Cambridge (the person graduated from Princeton and was getting a law degree from HARVARD).

My Harvard interview (one on one) was the best one ever (better than my MIT one, the woman was boring and was interested only in my test scores). My Princeton interview was just one hour shorter than my Harvard one but it was good.
