<p>I was wondering which schools offer the best of this type of department. I list alternate names due to the fact that these are very interchangable among many schools. However, I would like a department that has a strong Islamic/Arabic facet to it. Can somebody acquainted with this topic make some suggestions regarding say the top ten departments? Thank you.</p>

puts Princeton as the #1 Near Eastern Studies Department in the US. This is substantiated by the fact that Princeton's Firestone Library contains the largest collection of rare Islamic manuscripts in North America.</p>

<p>For the purpose of this thread (Islamic Studies), I certainly won't disagree. However, Princeton's NES program is notably deficient in the ancient period, so I would be hesitant to announce it the overall best. An unfortunate limitation of rankings. :p</p>

<p>if we were strictly speaking islamic studies along with arabic, how do the departments stack up? i heard umich or uchicago might just have the two best deparments in the country. how about stanford? ive seen they have recently opened up an islamic studies department.</p>

<p>Stanford looks like it has a pretty decent program, but it seems to be graduate only, with various courses open to undergraduates. You might have to major in something related like Religion or consider creating a major.</p>
