Best job for freshman?

I'm an incoming freshman with no prior work experience. I was looking at the job listings and many of the jobs seem to have a lot of qualifications that I can't meet. I have $3500 in work study so I feel like I should start right away instead of waiting until second semester.

What job would be best for a freshman with no work experience like me? Thanks.

I would recommend checking out Callisto, it’s a great resource to find jobs on campus. I’ve seen jobs on there that have minimal qualifications. If you have work-study I think there’s also a site that shows you those listings?

Usually the better jobs are those where you just sit at a desk, since these let you do homework. I have also seen some jobs where you get trained at a skill - these can be cool too, as you’ll actually be learning something.

Abusingirony, yeah, I too was surprised at how high some of the qualifications were for work-study and other student jobs that I saw when I first started going to UCB, especially the ones that will be useful later on or have better pay (like computer jobs or community outreach/marketing type jobs).

As for the best jobs for people that don’t really have work experience, from what I saw and friends experiences, the jobs you’ll most likely get or will meet the qualifications for are the cashier/food service jobs at the many Dining Commons throughout the campus and the security monitor and mail clerk positions at each Residence Hall/Unit, since these positions just require a friendly personality and a schedule that fits. Other good jobs that don’t need too much experience are the library clerks, **resident assistants/b, and the ticketers/attendants at the various events on campus (like football games, shows at the Greek, alumni stuff, etc.).

Other than those, most jobs I’ve seen require a fair amount of knowledge on stuff like Salesforce, Adobe Suite, and computer coding/programming. In any case, to search for only work-study positions, use the Work-Study page: [UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office » Work Study/url.

Hope that helps!
Go work at the library - the listings are on a board outside of 110 Doe (the HR office). I don’t think they post online much. It’s pretty easy to get a job there; they mostly judge based on your schedule. I worked at a desk for three years and it was an easy source of money.
