I want to get a job, but I'd prefer to make as much money as possible (haha, who wouldn't) and I'm just wondering what kind of jobs give the most per hour so I can earn for college. Anyone had a great job in the past?

depends-do you want a job related to your field, or just anything that will get you money?

A lot of kids around here do telemarketing

anything that'll get me money is good

umm...i have a friend who switched from one job to another because one job would pay higher than the other. she found that banks pay well-i think 10 something...at least decent for her. i think theaters are good too...but the only thing is she found herself back at her first job, which she didnt earn so much-i think 7 something, but she definitely enjoyed it as well as the people she worked with. so just make sure that you enjoy your work place. that way you know it will be more permanent than a job at a place you dont really like. good luck with finding a job as well as other future endeavors!

haha, get a job at sees candy. free candy and a starting salary of almost 10 dollars an hour! cant beat that...

It really depends on who is looking, how much experience you have, etc. If you are not specifically looking for something to suit your field of study, just a way to put some money in the bank for expenses at school, there are tons of random, ****ty jobs out there. I had no work experience and was suprisingly hired at an popular, trendy restaurant. Not exactly glamorous work, but I was lucky to get it with no experience in an area where no one was hiring. The positive side of working in restaurants are that the hours are usually short (my shifts were almost always four hours), in the late afternoon or night (good, depending on when you get out of school), and I made incredible tips, sometimes coming out averaging $17/hr. Food for thought...

Look at banks. My son has worked the past two summers at a bank for nearly $11.00/hour. He worked 8:00 to 4:30 five days per week as a clerk.

petsfan, is any prior experience needed?

No, my son had no prior experience.

What bank does your son work at? And what does he do in his job?

My parents say my first job should make me around $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 a week after high school. Now I am confused, how... nevermind that since when can anyone right after highschool and going to college person not even 18 yet find a job like that? Hours interested in working from like 6am to 6pm. Anyone know?

$1,000 to 2,000 a week after high school is impossible. That would be 50k to 100k a year. Working full-time, that would mean approx. $25-$50 an hour. That does not happen for students with no job experience and no college education.

If you nailed your SAT's and you have good people skills, tutoring pays well. I'm making 24/hr at Princeton Review this summer. Can make 1000/week if you do around 45hrs/week.

jnpn: What kinds of people skills do you need, and how much good do they have to be? How can you develop such skills? I'm looking to tutor, but I'm not good at handling people. I'm not a social type of person.

They look for people who can engage a class and articulately explain concepts. People skills are pretty essential to get the job. I don't really have an answer for how you develop people skills...other than socializing. If you are really hardcore I guess you could practice teaching a friend or family member.

I'm also working at the Princeton Review. In May at $20/hr teaching, I made 1200 bucks from teaching/tutoring and 400 from grading essays for an easy $1600. I'm interning in NYC right now, but am still grading essays for them at about 20-25 per day, which amounts to almost $200/week as a steady income while I wait for my monthly internship checks.

Yea I dont know what to do right now, my parents want my first job to give me at least $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 a week, maybe i should take on 2 jobs, making around that much total. I don't know, anyone know a good combination of jobs that would be anything other then contrustion work? My parents own their own companies and they pay their workers like $200.00 a day, without a college degree. They are construction workers though. Hating anything related to construction and the hard labor with it, should i really become a construction worker to make like $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 a week?

I mean you still have to go to school so you obviously can't work full time so $2000 a week is simply insane. Seriously, 2k a week is 8k a month, so you are bascially making 100k a year. Most college graduates cannt even get that much.

From personal experience in HS, construction is great but it's really really tiring and you wont get paid that much unless you are skilled in something, like painitng or whatever.

I think something around maybe $500 a week with balanced hours is reasonable working in an resturant or something like that.

Try being a car salesperson. I cashed in about $2500 (before tax) and I've been working here for a month.
