I'll be a freshman in the fall and am fully aware that I will probably be doing a lot of walking, etc. on campus, while needing to carry my laptop, a couple of notebooks, and maybe even textbooks in my backpack. As of now, I have an old Jansport that I feel like needs to be replaced with something sturdier and meant to carry more bulk. I am looking for something comfortable but at the same time, not overkill..

Does anybody who already attends UT, have any backpack recommendations?

I use a Swiss Army (I think that’s what the brand is, but it is Swiss something and pretty famous) which can carry a lot and is very comfortable.

when buying a backpack it’s always best to go out and actually try them on and see how they fit on and for you. for a sturdy backpack and good investment you could go to a hiking/camping store and try on the different laptop backpacks they have (northface, jansport, patagonia, etc) - not talking about the big hiking ones haha…unless you wanted that

I actually had one of those Swiss whatever backpacks and the bottom literally tore out…and this was in middle school. I have had both Jansport and North Face, and they have both been great. Be careful when buying North Face for school though because they can be really small (well, so can all bags, but I digress). Have also heard good things about LLBean. You may want to try zappos for free shipping and returns.

My brother had a Swiss Gear for college and it held up well but I have read many things saying that they break (straps tear, lining frays, zippers break, etc) after a short while. I would stay away.

I have a North Face Surge (original Surge, not Surge ii), and it’s fantastic. A bit expensive, but extremely tough. And there’s an incredible amount of space.

I used an LL Bean backpack for a while, and while it held up great, it didn’t provide much support with heavy loads. I just got a North Face Recon, and it seems like it will support heavy loads better. It isn’t as roomy as the LL Bean backpack, though.
