Best LACs for a Science major?

@neuromajor:
Many disciplines in the biological and physical sciences, medicine, teaching, business, economics, etc. would allow you to “discover new things that can truly impact the world and help people.” I’m just saying…

I think it’s great that you have an interest in something like neuroscience at your age. Just don’t let it prevent you from investigating other things. I realize it’s a no-brainer to do summer research on the La Jolla mesa due to your proximity…but there are other fun things to explore, you know. Have fun out there! San Diego is a great place to live/work/go to school…

If you already have Bowdoin on your list it’s a shame not to have Middlebury because it seems too remote. I think the reality is that students at LAC’s NEAR cities don’t really go into the city that much. (And Middlebury is 50 minutes from Burlington while Bowdoin is 40 minutes, I think, from Portland). Middlebury has excellent sciences and a fabulous facility where science majors spend a lot of time. It’s a little bigger than Bowdoin (2400 vs. araound 1800). Not saying it’s better, but just an option to consider. The best LACs are not in cities. Visit to see how you feel, of course.

Brandeis, Connecticut College, Wellesley. I’ll mention Tufts, though it is a small university so is slightly bigger than a LAC.
