I'm not very computer-savvy so I don't know what to look for. As of now budget isn't a huge concern but I just would like some opinions (no Mac's) I hear good things about Asus and Samsung

Anyone?!?!

You don’t need anything special for Acc/fin. So, anything but a HP. The couple (HP’s) that I’ve owned have been junk. I just bought a Toshiba around $500. So far so good.

Thanks for the response
Any other opinions??

Lenovo Y500 has great specs. What’s your price range?

BTW: For finance and accounting, anything will due. I’m using a 7 year old dual core pentium, and it works fine.

Ill have to look into it
But I’m thinking like $1500 or so

Get the Lenovo Y500 with the 16GB SSD upgrade. Currently on sale for $869. Get the 3 year accident warranty, and you are up to $1,029.

The y500 is in their gaming series. The only thing it is missing is a docking station. But, by giving that up, you get graphics that is 2-3 times faster, and a cheaper machine.

You get an Intel i7-3630QM, quad core, 8 treads
8GB RAM
1TB hard drive with a 16GB SSD cache. I saw videos showing it boots in 20 seconds vs 12 seconds for a boot SSD.
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB (gaming video card)
15.6" Screen 1920x1080

FYI: This exceeds the specs for MIT. Get an external hard drive for backup, Monitor, keyboard, and mouse when you are in your dorm, and you should be set for your 4 years at college.

1,029 Laptop
150 Monitor
50 Keyboard and mouse
100 external hard disk

1,429 total

+$80 for Microsoft Office - Student version

Here are your school’s requirements:

Most likely, most kids will have Dells. Which means, if something goes wrong, there are people around (IT staff) who can help you figure out the problem.

I would recommend the Inspiron 15R, or the Lattitude E6530. The inspiron is the Consumer Line, and the Lattitude is the Business line. the Lattitude will be better built, and more stable. Parts will also be standard if you need to replace something. The Lattitude also has a docking station (which you can buy a lot cheaper on e-bay).

Thank you so much for the extensive response, it helped a lot!
