<p>Seriously, macs are the best on any standard. Macbooks and Powerbooks.</p>
<p>^^Yeah, maybe, but Macs are quite a bit more expensive. If you're on a budget then Toshiba or possibly Dell might do the job. I have a Sony Vaio that used to be my dad's that works for me.</p>
<p>well, get one on ebay then. powerboooks are pretty cheap since macbooks came out... they're about 300-700 on ebay right now.</p>

<p>13" macbooks are about 600-1000
15" macbooks pro's are about 800-1400
and 17" are a waste if you're not a pro graphic designer.</p>
<p>I have a 15" powerbook.. I have so much junk on this that I never use (I have about $6,000 worth of software)..i might sell it (with software, it would go for about 1500-2000) and upgrade to a macbook pro and start fresh. i just don't want to spend all that money on new software. ehhh.</p>
<p>I have an iBook. Coolest computer. Except my mum's. She has a MacBook. But the iBooks work great. My only complaint is that I did have to get Tiger (I previously had Cheetah or something . . . I can't remember), even though Leapord is coming out in October.</p>

<p>Decent/s*ht/crap. If you must get a PC, get a Toshiba.. others, esp. Sony, refurbish a lot w/o letting their consumers know.. they cost so much more oney than macs in the long run.</p>

<p>I just got a new VAIO because my dad has one and recommended it. It works great..no problems so far. I used to have a Toshiba and I would definitely recommend it too, very durable.</p>

<p>if cost is not an issue, alienware laptops are by far the best...owns all other PCs..and owns any macs for sure</p>

<p>macs aren't the 'best' laptops, but i think overall the best operating system... which is probably more crucial than hardware, but it depends on you</p>

<p>many schools offer special discounts with sellers like dell, so then apple and dell will be similar</p>
<p>but honestly, macs will have a much much longer lifetime over windows pc's, with virtually no effort [meaning your computer will not slow down as much over time, like my macbook works 98% as fast as it did a year ago, with about 89% battery health], and will make your school life much more stress free [never had it crash/freeze on me]</p>
<p>mmm lol this time of year is painful though, because while i understand you need a computer for school, apple's next version of OSX it due to come out soon, and it would be wise to wait for that... and the next version of the macbook, but that won't happen till fall/winter, so... wait if you can ^.^</p>

<p>While my son had one Power Book, I went through Sony Vaio, ThinkPad, and Toshiba Satellite. Now I have MacBook Pro. I highly recommend Apple.</p>
