I'm tired of eating at the same places around campus: Subway, Chipotle, Toaster Oven, Smart Alec's, Asian Ghetto, I House. Where do you guys eat (or study I guess) that other students don't really know of?

I'll start by saying everyone should try the pancakes at La Note near Durant & Shattuck. I also heard there was a cafe inside one of the science buildings by Latimer...

Sliver is like a mini-Cheeseboard, right next to B&J’s on Center between Oxford and Shattuck. Phil’s Sliders is along Shattuck, about a block past Shattuck Square. I love Crepes-A-Go-Go on Telegraph. The cafe you’re talking about is probably Yali’s in Stanley (the only ‘cafe’ in the College of Chemistry is The Coffee Lab, which is more of a to-go window). My friends and I often end up at Peking Express along Durant, which doesn’t have that great food, but it’s always empty and so I don’t feel bad for doing homework there. Sunrise Deli has pretty good falafel. Northside Cafe has the best baked potatoes ever. Finally, Angeline’s beignets always get me – the food is a little out of normal range, but their desserts are pretty reasonable and simply amazing.

Has anyone tried that music-themed cafe along Bancroft?

thai basil in asian ghetto
gypsy’s in asian ghetto
ethiopian food on telegraph
hawaiin bbq on shattuck
taco bell on telegraph
mcdonald’s on university
del taco in san francisoc

@weebly: I should try Musical Offering one of these days, then. Even if the food isn’t amazing, at least it’s pretty standard.

Also, I second (third?) Racha Cafe.
Manpuku on College has cheap Japanese food. Not the best quality, but it’s certainly palatable, and for the price, you can totally fill yourself up and then still have money to head opposite to Ici for dessert.

Edit: Does anyone know of good Italian places other than Pasta Bene but hopefully around the same price range? (I’ve also already tried Gypsy’s and La Val’s.)

I recommend Musashi and Nanayiro for Japanese food. Musashi has more traditional Japanese food and is delicious, and Nanayiro is also top-quality. Angelina’s Lousiiana Kitchen has a lovely ambiance and their Southern food is also great. Gecko Gecko has the best Thai food in my opinion; it’s also really cute! Bettes Oceanview Diner (on 4th street) is a popular restaurant for breakfast food. Their souffle pancake is to die for! Be prepared to wait 1+ hour for seating, as the restaurant is always bustling. Spoon (Ashby Ave.) is pretty far, but it has the best Korean food in Berkeley IMO. The food is worth the trip.

Lucyan: I would say Subway $5 footlongs with all the veggie toppings. And Cafe Intermezzo, but that is gone, so the salads at Trader Joe’s are now a pretty good value… Basically I cook when I need healthy and cheap. ;)
