Best Liberal Arts College Music Program? (Composition)

SpiritManager, as this thread has a few tangents, I’ve tried to assemble some links based on what I thought it was that was needed. I may be well off base.

A number of these contain additional links, and expect some duplication.

Probably linked within one or more of these is the sticky thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/6280-suggestions-colleges-music-majors.html</a> which is always worth a look.

Also probably mentioned within are the “Colleges That Change Lives” [Colleges That Change Lives](http://www.ctcl.org/) a number of which have both exceptional academics, and some pretty solid to excellent music programs or departments.

Lencius, I came upon this thread as my son is applying to undergrad. composition this year. You may want to correspond with Keith Fitch at CIM in Cleveland. While not associated with “Ivy League” school Case Western is well respected and humanities are taken there and walking distance. When we auditioned at CIM Dr. Fitch described a required course in curriculum that allows/requires student to collaborate with outside art/film/video artists. This seemed unique in our search and I know he mentioned a student that completed a composition for video game while in school. My facts may not be correct so I encourage you to check them out and consider CIM, my apologies if my skimming of this thread is repeating information already discussed. Please feel free to contact me or I can forward you to my son about audition experiences in composition 2010. You can search my posts and see our angst if you wish…

Check into DePauw. They also have beautiful new facilities

Hate to sound like a broken record, but do look into the music composition degree at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University – an eclectic program that stresses fundamentals, collaboration between disciplines (singers, instrumentalists, filmmakers, dancers) and emphasis on each student’s individual artistic voice.

Successes this spring include a newly graduated MM composer winning international chamber and contemporary opera awards [Vista Composer Spotlight: Katarzyna Brochocka | Opera Vista](Operavista.org) and a freshman comp major just named the winner of Ingrid Michaelson’s national video contest: [Ingrid Michaelson : Video Contest : Video Contest Results](http://www.ingridmichaelson.com/videocontest/results/)

Quite a range, if that is what you are looking for.
