What’s considered the best location to live in Davis is purely subjective and is based on your individual preference. I lived in Central/North Davis last year and it was alright–my apartment was right across from Savemart so I could literally walk across the road if I ever needed to do grocery shopping. This year I’m living in South Davis. I personally like living in South Davis because it’s close to downtown, has duplex and townhome-like apartments, and Teabo Cafe.

If you want to be close to bus lines and shopping plazas, go for Avalon Apartment. There’s two bus stops and Oakshade Plaza just a 2-5 minutes walk down from the complex. With Saratoga, you’d have to walk a little further. Plus, I think only the P and Q lines serve Saratoga and they go clockwise/counterclockwise around Davis. If you don’t like having to wait every half hour- an hour for the P or Q lines to arrive, then Avalon’s the better choice.

(I’m living in Avalon next year, btw!)

If you frequently use the bus, East Davis isn’t an ideal location to live in because depending on where in East Davis you live, you would take either the A line or the L line. With the A line being the only bus line along its respective route (past downtown, that is) and the L line being the only bus line along its respective route, the two can get really packed. This can be problematic because if the buses are packed beyond capacity (the point where no one can keep on moving back to make room for more passengers and when everyone is already squished like sardines), the driver will have no choice but to tell you to get on the next bus, which can also be problematic if that bus is also packed as well.

West Davis is a great place to live if you have a dog or want to have a dog because of all the dog-friendly apartments (the Trees Apartment, Portega Bay, and Stonegate Village Apartments all have doggy bag stations. It’s the most dog-friendly part of Davis.

thanks for the post so far, bumping this for more comments

I currently live in West Davis, and I absolutely LOVE it. Rent is on the high side, but it’s one of the nicer areas in Davis. It’s safe, quiet, and clean. The people are extremely friendly. As sopranokitty mentioned to you already, West Davis is pet friendly. Students usually take the D, K, and P lines to get to campus (bus runs on weekends as well). You can take the Q line to get groceries at the Safeway in North Davis (takes usually 6 minutes or so).
