Best Mac Apps to get for college?

Which are the most useful Mac Apps for college? I'm a music major, so for that, and just in general. If you are already in college, what do you use most? I have one of those $100 giftcards to the Mac App Store that came with my MBP.

I highly recommend GIMP, which is a free Image Manipulation Program.
Other things really depend on what you do. It would be silly to tell you something only for you to never use it. The other thing is that a lot of useful programs (like GIMP) are free/open-source.

opps…didn’t mean to type that twice…only meant one post for that…

I love quicksilver. It’s an application launcher/file searcher (sort of like spotlight) but you can use various addons and so on too, and set up hotkeys for specific things. For example, I have shift-command-t to launch terminal, and shift-command-s to google things.

Also, it’s free  link: Blacktree[/url”>http://www.blacktree.com/]Blacktree

Evernote. Dropbox.

Never live in the past but always learn from it.

other opinions?

As far as music major stuff, this isn’t in the Mac App store, but get Finale if you don’t have a music-writing program already. You’ll need it for music theory homework and probably other classes as well. I’d recommend NotePad, unless you’re a composition major, then get Finale PrintMusic.

Solitaire’s good for slow lectures

FInal Cut Pro X, :P, I kid.

If you haven’t gotten the iWork Suite, you could get Keynote, it’s great for presentations. I’m afraid I don’t know any music-major-esque apps, sorry.

Do NOT buy Finale yet if you’re a music major. Not every school requires it, many make it available for free, and some schools (like mine) use Sibelius instead. Wait until you see the lay of the land.

I will probably get Finale at some point, but not yet. I actually get a $150 coupon for it with the purchase of my theory textbooks, so I’ll definitely use that.

You bought a 2011 Macbook Pro?..

I posted a must have Mac Apps for that a while ago… but here it goes again

School:
-MS Office (iWork… meh. It’s great but office is office)
-Boot Camp Partition
-Skype + Adium
-Chrome
-Dropbox

General:
-gfxcardstatus
-istat
-coconutbattery
-transmission (torrents)
-frostwire (limewire like thing but better)
-starcraft 2

Check the other thread for a bigger list. These are all I can think of for now…

iWork>Microsoft Office, fo-sho. It’s way more user-friendly.

Evernote- Fantastic for note taking. It also has a feature where it can read text from photos you snap and upload.

Pixelmator- If you’re willing to spend a little, you won’t go wrong with this image editing program. Cheaper than Photoshop, with the same abilities and prettier interface.

Dropbox- Simple file sharing for yourself or for friends, all in the “cloud.” It makes getting things done easier.

CleanMyMac- Computers get a bit bloated after excessive use, due to unneeded system files, massive amounts of cookies. This’ll shed about 600mb to a few gigabytes of unnecessary crap on your computer, so it can be consistently speedy.

SelfControl - it’s a free app, but it’s definitely a grade (and sleep) saver! Basically you can blacklist all of the websites that help you procrastinate while studying, writing essays, or doing homework on the computer. You are able to set a predetermined period of time for the sites to be blocked from your computer and there is NO WAY to access them until the time is up. You’re still able to access everything else that’s not blocked on the web though.
