W700ds… lol

Just buy a sold Macbook Air, the macbook pro get a little clunky after carrying it across campus. The macbook Air maybe lacking in a disc drive and a little bit of memory, but thats what those external HD’s and Disc drives are for! trust me…Its one of my greatest regrets on college gear

Mikedogg I like your suggestion. One quesiton though. If I bought the Air then I would get the external Superdrive for CD’s, DVD’s, etc. However what should I do about an external drive?. I know theres always the Time Capsule but that is kind of expensive. Maybe you know some good external drives that could be used as both an HD to Backup my Air as well as just some extra space for random files? I understand if you recomend the Time Capsule though just because it is a first party accesory.

The Macbook Air is a waste. You’re seriously weak if you can’t handle a 5 pound laptop.

A MacBook Air is great but kind of reeks of status buying. Is that what you want? If so, go for it and load up on the accessories.

There are tons of external drives that are compatible with Mac OSX, and good ones can be had for between $100 and $200. Check our Other World Computing for one vendor that has a good selection ([Performance Upgrades; FireWire USB SATA Storage; Memory, more at OWC](http://www.macsales.com)).

Personally, I’d go with a Macbook Pro, because it has everything in one package. True, the Macbook Air is ultra-cool and super-thin, but I think that you will end up plugging all sorts of things into it to make it fully functional.

Yah it does seem like a tradeoff. The air does have less weight but it also would require multiple accesorries that in the end might add just as much weight to my backpack as a macbook pro would. I would need to buy a super drive, external HD or Time Capsule, usb multiport hub as well as a few other things. The other big problem that I have noticed withe the Air is battery life. Every review I have seen says that it is not near the 5 hours that Apple promises. I will probably go to an Apple store in the mall near my school and check out both and compare the weight and tradeoffs of each. The thing about weight is that I am used to carrying around almost my whole locker full of books/binders in my backbook daily just because it’s an inconvienance to go to my locker.

Please wait. The “rumors” are that the new MacBook Pros will have the i7 processor. I would expect to see it in it by this summer. Wait or you will regret it!!!

This is just food for thought, but you know, Best Buy has these accidental policies that cover drops and spills. If you get a Macbook Pro through them (they price match student discount) and buy the accidental warranty, then I’m just throwing out there that if in summer a Pro with Core i7 DOES come out, let’s say you were to COMPLETELY ACCIDENTALLY drop the Macbook Pro, they’ll replace it with the new one. :)

Again, I’m not saying drop it on purpose, because that’s bad and you can’t do that and it voids the warranty!

I’m just saying… Should an accident happen… You’ll be compensated. cough
