What major should my bachelor’s degree be if I want to apply for dental school? this major should also be able to give me a job if I got rejected by dental schools. Thank you.
Your major is not a factor in dental school admissions. As long as you get the dental school course requirements done, you can major in anything you want. You should choose a major that you are passionate about and can do well in, not one that you merely feel will make you look good to dental schools.
Well if you’re planning on applying to dental school, you should probably stick with a Biology related or Chemistry related major since most of the requirements at most colleges for those majors line up really well with prerequisite requirements for dental school. Essentially, two birds, one stone situation. If you are planning for a plan B, your major really depends on what you really want to do. A bachelors in Biology/Chemistry leads to a lot of different career options. If you’re thinking of finding a career in something completely different from the pre-health sector, you should major according to that plan B option. I mean, having a non-science major isn’t a bad thing; in fact, it could really put you at an advtantage, make you stand out. You’d just have to put more work and time into pursuing both goals.
Sure, a biology or chemistry related major will have substantial overlap, but yes, it is definitely advisable to have a plan B in mind from the very beginning. Also, undergrad is your only chance for you to study something unrelated to dentistry that you are passionate about. Once you get to dental school and beyond, you are not going to get that chance again.
@dafatdabook @Sddsy63 @umcoe16 I am going to be under Pre-dental guidance at St. Bonaventure this year and I plan on majoring in Business management. Of course this makes scheduling a bit trickier, becasue of the science pre- reqs, but I hope to open my own practice, and I love business so it just makes sense. Also, I hope the dental admissions will see my vision and find me to be a dynamic applicant.
