I think that physics is better than chemistry for the IB. :)

a_mom, the berkeley data was a result of a voluntary submission of the alumni’s whereabouts. several grads have not responded to the university’s inquiry of their alumni, but a lot of them are performing quite well career-wise. I know a bunch of econ, business and comsci grads who are doing very well working in banks but are not recorded on the berkeley data because they haev not participated in the survey. of course, there are also those who did not do as great as the others. bottom line is, any degree may get you into IB if you come from a great school that is a target school for IB such as Berkeley, Stanford, Caltech, and to some extent, Claremon McKenna.

For learning DCFs and valuations on the side, read some books. I haven’t read this one personally (will pick it up soon), but this is supposed to be one of the best books about financial modeling you can buy:

[Amazon.com: Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers and Acquisitions (Wiley Finance) (9780470442203): Joshua Rosenbaum, Joshua Pearl, Joseph R. Perella: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Investment-Banking-Valuation-Leveraged-Acquisitions/dp/0470442204/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1287335138&sr=1-1-catcorr)

Its going to require motivation on your part, but if you read books like this on the side, practice them, and do accounting, you should be in excellent shape. Secondly, I would go to Wisconsin. Its not an i-banking feeder school necessarily, but its much better than your other choices for investment banking and still will have a solid accounting program. Plus, it has good ties to Chicago, and will be solid for doing finance at a F500 in the midwest. Check out these links:

how is unc-ch for ib?

The school you attend is more important than your major. It is not impossible to break into IB from a non-target, just much, much more difficult.

The traditional route to IB at a BB is very high gpa at a target school. Knowledge of finance, accounting, statistics, math are certainly pluses. Economics and computer science courses don’t hurt.

Basically, English, Sports Management, Communications, etc are the majors that probably won’t help much.

Take a look…I thought the number one supposed to be accounting.
